Just diagnosed and a little overwhelmed. Anyone else have this type? Is it a hard one to treat? I know hormonal therapy is off the board, but was told about herceptin. Meet with oncologist on Wednesday to discuss options. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I'm HER2+ but PR+ER+. In general, HER2+ is an aggressive form of cancer, but responds well to chemo (chemo works best against quickly dividing cells). You don't say how large your tumor is, but if it is 2 cm. or bigger, you should ask about Perjeta and neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Perjeta is the new targeted therapy for HER2+ cancer, and you can get it during neoadjuvant chemotherapy (along with Herceptin) in the US.

I have ER-, HER2+ cancer, diagnosed last spring. It responded very well to neoadjuvant Taxol/Herceptin/Perjeta. Hang in: these early days after you are first diagnosed are hectic and bewildering. Listen to what the oncologist has to say and decide if you need a 2nd opinion. You'll feel much, much better with a treatment plan in place, I promise!

That is the same type as mine. Mine has responded very well to chemo.
