Lipofilling /Fat Grafting

Hi all,

I had a risk-reducing mastectomy 6 months ago with immediate reconstruction (implants). My surgeon told me that I have very little fat in my breasts and over the past few months I have developed significant rippling in both implants.

My surgeon is proposing to recreate both inframammary folds which will push the implants up and help the rippling to some degree. He also wants to do lipofilling but he has told me that I need to put on weight in order for him to have some fat to transfer. I was wondering if anyone else was told to put on weight before lipofilling?

Also, the rippling seems to have got worse over time. I am concerned that if I have fat-grafting now, maybe I will need it again in a few years time if the rippling continues to get worse. Does anyone have any experience of this? I want to avoid repeated surgeries but maybe I need a surgery now anyway to recreate the inframammary fold.

Many thanks in advance for any help and advice you can give.

Kind regards,

Jo

I had my exchange to implants in September of 2014 and fat grafting (lipofilling) in September of 2015. I too had significant rippling--especially deep ripples radiating out from the center (cleavage area). The grafting worked! No visible ripples at all. I'm 5'4 and weigh about 117. My PS was initially worried that he couldn't get enough fat off me. (He gave the surgery a 50/50 chance of working.) However, if you gain weight on purpose, your body is likely to want to go back to its normal weight, which means you'll lose the fat you grafted. Turns out I had plenty of fat, especially in in my outer thighs, although he took fat from my belly and inner thighs as well. Fat that has been successfully grafted should stay with you forever, unless you lose a significant amount of weight. You won't know if it's been successful until it's been about 3 months after the surgery.

You can read more fat grafting stories here:

    Best wishes!

I just came across your post. I wanted to ask you, how do you feel about the safety of the fat transfer in relation to a cancer reoccurrence? I'm scheduled for lipo filling March 22nd and although my surgeon says it's safe, he acknowledged that if there were any cells left from DMX that escaped, they could attach to the fat cells that were transplanted and grow.
