Drains with lumpectomy?

I've read that you may or may not have drains put in after a lumpectomy and was wondering how many of you who have had a lumpectomy had a drain to contend with. I'll be speaking with my BS on Monday, but was curious as to what you all have experienced.

I had a lumpectomy- twice actually- and no drains.

I had nodes removed along with the lumpectomy so had a drain. Also because of the drain I stayed one night in hospital after the surgery.----Kathy

I had ALND level l/ll with my lumpectomy. I had one drain.

Lumpectomy & SNB (4 nodes removed). No drain. Suspect it varies by surgeon, their experiences and the location of the tissue removed.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I guess it does vary by surgeon. My BS said he will do a lumpectomy & SNB and expects 1-3 nodes removed with no drain. I can't wait for this to be over.
