Good Moring all. Hopefully I am posting in the right spot :). I have a core needle biopsy scheduled for tommrow related to solid mass in my right breast. I've read the pamphlet the imaging center gave me and researched on the internet but I still have concerns/questions. How bad is pain next day; should I take off work? My doctor mentioned that some of her patients had nerve pain in breast area for months after procedure? Did anyone get false results? Does it really only take a week to get results?

    Sarah, of course, everyones' tolerance to pain is different. They will probably give you a RX pain med to take if needed. Depending on your type of work and how much pain you are in, will determine if you need off of work. I think I had mine done in the afternoon and had some dis-comfort for a few days. They will probably give you a small ice pack; I would suggest taking an open front sports-type bra to wear for compression and to keep the swelling to a minimum. I think I took ibuprofen for pain. You might also want to get a small pillow to place between you and the seat belt on the ride home, if it's in a place that it might be needed. Yes, you may get pings of pain for a while afterwards. I got my results the next afternoon, but it usually takes longer than that. Hydrate, breathe, you got this! Best wishes for B9 results!

    I was not given RX pain meds for a core biopsy and it was a pretty painless procedure. I was also told I would be fine to drive myself after and I was. They put a tiny cold pack in my bra. I have seen women on here who returned to work after a core biopsy. Discomfort-wise, it is no big deal

    I was told to take extra strength Tylenol and was not prescribed any additional medicine. Because ibuprofen if a blood thinner double check with them before taking it. The weight lifting restriction was my biggest problem. I went back to work the next day and just swapped out ice packs throughout the day. I was a bit sore, but it was tolerable.

    I will add that even for a surgical excisional biopsy I had very little discomfort. I WAS given RX pain meds for that, but didn't need them. Took an Aleve & no big deal

    Hi Sarah, I had a core biopsy done last Tuesday, following suspicious mammogram. It was not painful, and I didn't even take Tylenol afterwards. They gave me a small ice pack and that was it. I had my results in 2 days. I guess it depends how busy your lab is. Mine did not show any cancer, but did show ADH so I have an appointment with the surgeon 1/8. I expect an excisional biopsy (I have family history too) and to go forward from those results. I could have gone to work following the core biopsy, but was on vacation already. The only restriction was no lifting. Best of luck!

    Thank you guys for the response :) I had my biopsy done today and it no where as bad as I thought it was going to be. I kinda of got squeamish watching the needle push through tissue on the ultra-sound screen. The doctor made the comment that I had "very dense tissue" and had problems pushing needle through said tissue. I got another look at the mass and the edges are definitely irregular and not rounded. Anxiety major time has struck. The doctor confused me by calling it a "nodule" this time where at last ultra-sound appointment she called it a solid mass. Hopefully results will come back in a timely manner.

    Glad things went well, Sarah. Sometimes our imaginations can run away with us.

    To answer your question, the word "nodule" and "mass" are often used interchangeably. There is no significance in using one word over the other. Hope you get results quickly, like, later this week. Once you have your pathology, you'll be able to start putting together a plan. The waiting is the worst part

    Hi! I had my biopsy done last Thursday. I am still sore, but am really sensitive to pain. I bought the freezerable ice cubes, put them in a ziploc, wrapped a paper towel around it and it was heaven. I tried sweeping today and felt some pulling. I have the biggest bruise appearing so don't get too worried about that. I was told at my appt not to take motrin for the 3-5 following the biopsy because of bleeding issues. For me, not being able to pick up my 3 yo was torture....that and he leaned on my breast to get his drink off the coffee table! ow, much?! I am waiting for my results too. Last year, I got them the day after. Let us know how they turn out!

    My Core Bx is Friday, just want to get it over with. Waiting is tough.

    FWIW, I had my biopsy done on a Tues. morning and was phoned with the preliminary results (IDC, grade 2) the next evening, and the ER/PR/HER2 status the morning after that. Guess it depends on how busy the path lab is and the luck of the draw.

    Hi ,

    I had a core biopsy gone wrong done yesterday. Has anyone experienced a malfunction with the equipment?The lidocaine did not fully dispense. The samples remained in the tubing and the needle remained in my breast for what seemed an indefinite period of time. It was painful, and my anxiety was over the top.The tech and Radiologist go out the door leaving it open explaining that their equipment had been down all day. Then the Radiologist wanted to continue to try to take samples. I said no because the machine had malfunctioned, She then stated she could change the needle. NO.. Really? The samples are still in the tubing.One tech threw the tubing away, the other pulled it out of the trash.They commented on cutting it out of the tubing. When they removed the needle they forgot to place the marker.They commented that they had had a stressful day, well they are the ones who set the tone,Don't continue to see patients when your equipment is not functioning! I don't know if it was operator error or not but the staff was flustered and unprofessional. i give that the whole experience an F. Oh, and what will the pathologist have to read? Cancer is straight from the devil.
