2. Not the primary structure, these days, although there is a cosmetic wood component, it isn't a significant one...
-
3. Is it some kind of a building.
-
Part of a larger set....hmm
3. Is this unit required for the other part of the set to work
-
Oh good, it's not just Lover and me.
3. It is not a building, but it is constructed. Very much manmade. (Could be considered singular or plural. There's a number of them.)
4. The units can function independently of one another, and indeed usually do. Very much so. But together they form a larger whole.
-
Oh thanks, Queenie! You rephrase it much better and exactly what I wanted to say hehe.Yay, Kayak....the silence is deafening!
-
5. Does it have anything to do with transportation (e.g. a train station).
-
5. Does the individual unit weigh more than 10lbs?
Edit: I want to change 10 to 50.
-
Recap (for my own sake as much as anyone else's):
1. Not electronic.
2. Not wooden, in any meaningful sense of the usage.
3. It is not a building, but it is constructed.
4. The units are self-sufficient, but may be considered a very loosely connected web whole.
(and the most recent two questions)
5. Yes, it is connected to transportation. Continue with that thought!
6. Yes, it is considerably larger than 10 lbs. Also considerably larger than 50 pounds. But I'm going to stop there, as any more would be (I think) a bit too much of a hint just now.
-
7. Is it a train or part of a train (a railroad car)?
-
I think you got it, Kayak.
-
7. No, it is not connected to rail transport. (Sorry, Lover!)
Though that's approximately the scale I'm thinking of.
Forgive me: off to bed in a moment. But a hint before I go: not land transport.. But Amtrak, and cities' light rail districts, such as Chicago's CTA or Philadelphia's SEPTA, aren't unrelated in spirit.)
-
Is it a ship of some sort (an ocean liner, a container ship)?
-
Or is it an airplane or airline?
-
Of course it isn't. Queenie wouldn't make it that easy
-
Good Morning!
8. It is a ship(s). But Lover's right: it's not quite that easy in that that's not the final answer--I'm thinking of a specific group.
I won't count 'Is it an airplane?"
Hint: as with Mackinac Island, this has a more than slightly regional component. WHERE it is may be almost as important as WHAT.
-
Is it on the east coast?
-
9. No.
Not Great Lakes, either. I wouldn't repeat so soon.
-
OK, last try before I go out for the day - is it the Pearl Harbor memorial in Hawaii for the sinking of the USS Arizona?
-
10. No. Though I wish now I'd thought of that! Mine's much more mundane.
Though as an underlying question: yes. it is (or perhaps they are) 'somewhere on the West Coast/Pacific States'..

Short version: counting this question's negotiable, viz Kayak's question. No, it is not a pier/dock.
Recap:
1. Not electronic.
2. Not wooden, in any meaningful sense of the usage.
3. It is not a building, but it is constructed.
4. The units are self-sufficient, but may be considered a very loosely connected web whole.
5. Yes, it is connected to transportation. Continue with that thought!
6. Yes, it is considerably larger than 10 lbs. Also considerably larger than 50 pounds. But I'm going to stop there, as any more would be (I think) a bit too much of a hint just now. (Hint: public transit, akin to Chicago's CTA or Philadelphia's SEPTA.)
7. Not rail transport. (Hint: not land transport.)
8. It is a ship. (Hint: regional aspect.)
9. Not on the East Coast.
10. Not the Pearl Harbor war memorial for the USS Arizona.

she said no to pier dock on top if her recap. Earlier I wanted to guess storage units. I thought that fit. Separate, but can be used together. See....I don't read your minds at all. Blahhhhh
-
Sorry for the confusion! Susan's correct: not a pier.
It's, or rather they are, motorized/mobile, and in current use.
-
Piggy Back trailers that travel by train?
-
Oops I reread your list and saw it is a ship so I was hoping that you would not have caught that I removed that question but thank you for not counting it. Since I live on the east coast I probably will learn something new when someone posts, everything I think of applies to both the east and west coasts.
-
this is not for queenie...this is us brainstorming....do oil rigs have ships that can " connect" and be a " unit" or individual on the water for help and use and support?
-
Ducky: (amused, affectionate, teasing) not gonna count that either.
"It" is a group of ships, used as public transit. The examples I gave of light rail (CTA, SEPTA) may have been slightly misleading, for which I apologize.
Each ship functions independently of the others.

I tried to cheat and Google...and failed
-
are we looking for something like the Catalina express?? Is that moving in the right direction??
