Specialist recommendations please - Inv Mixed Duct/Lobular
Hello Ladies,
My 78 yr old mother was diagnosed with invasive mammary carcinoma on Dec 23 ... Merry Christmas ! Her report also says weakly positive for e-cadherin staining, but mainly lobular features. She has one nodule that is nearly 7cm at the 10:00 position as well as a 5mm lymph node at approx the same position. it is grade 2, not yet staged but I am thinking it is possibly stage IIB. She has not yet had surgery. We are seeking centers that specialize in older adults to help us make the best decision for treatment for quality of life. She is in relatively good health now -- she has COPD but is still pretty active. We have an appt at MD Anderson on Jan 11. We are also considering the Moffit Cancer Center in FL. We would really appreciate suggestions for any other experts, regardless of location. Thank you so much in advance.

I believe both centers you mention are NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers. This is what you want. If one of these hospitals is in your community, even better. If not, your mother will probably want to have some or all of her treatment locally. If you would like to mention the area in which your mother lives, perhaps others will offer specific recommendations.

Hi BrooksideVT,
Thank you for your response. We live in Mobile, AL. There arent any NCI comprehensive cancer centers around Mobile but we are open to all suggestions. Thank you again for your help.

Dear Iscrivy:
I live in South Florida and I went to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. I would highly recommend going there. The doctors make everything easy for the patients. I am so glad that I chose to be treated there. They are absolutely phenomenal.
Moffit Cancer Center is also very highly regarded. It is in Tampa, FL, about 3 & 1/2 - 4 hours away from my house. I have heard good things about them but I never considered going there.
For me, M.D. Anderson was a better choice. My step-father was treated there for prostate cancer. He started at Sloane Kettering in NYC where he lived but the treatment at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Texas was much better for him then at Sloane Kettering, which was down the block from his apartment. My mother was treated at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for lung cancer. She started at Jackson Memorial in Miami, FL.
Jerry's doctor at M.D. Anderson gave him 11 extra years of life. He would have died in 4 months if he stayed at Sloane Kettering. He lived 11 extra years as a result of his caring doctor. Jackson Memorial did not read my mothers slides correctly. My mother immediately transferred to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center who did all of her treatment and she is still alive 12 years later. I also credit my doctors at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for saving my life. A friend of mine had brain cancer and she was treated at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She is still alive 12 years after dx.
Good luck. I will say a prayer for your mom and for your family.

Dr. Debu Tripathy at M.D. Anderson. He is absolutely the best.
