Breast cancer after gastric bypass?

I was curious to see if anyone else was diagnosed after gastric bypass.

I had my gastric bypass December 2014. My regular mammogram in September 2015 was irregular, After biopsy, DCIS, ER+/PR+ was found. Lumpectomy in November found a small area of IDC, ER faintly +, PR - HER 3+.

I had lymph nodes removed last week and they were negative. I go back in 2 weeks to discuss radiation and what drugs to use. I had a hysterectomy in 2008, and went off hormones after the diagnosis a few mon the ago. My doctor's NP said she didn't think chemo was necessary since the IDC was so small, but she mentioned it again as we were hanging up.

My main thoughts are that I hope whatever meds i go on will be absorbed properly since I have a small pouch for my stomach, and if anyone else has been thru anything similar?

Your Drs are the only ones that can answer your individual question. We are each so unique and are not medical personnel who are actually seeing you, have your records, can monitor you or order any necessary tests/scans/etc.

If you are HER2+, you will likely be on Herceptrin for a year. If you are ER+/PR + (or ER+/PR-) probably will be on estrogen blockers (these are not HRT as they block the uptake of estrogen which ER+ feeds upon). There are different ones/types, which one is prescribed based on your age, among other issues. Have you seen a Medical Oncologist (Chemo Dr/MO) or Radiological Oncologist (Rads Dr/RO)? They are the ones who specialize in Chemo and Rads - not the Surgeon who specializes in 'cutting'. It is Team Effort for best care but with your additional potential medical issues with Gastric Bypass, there is at least one other Dr who should be on your TX (treatment) Plan to coordinate all TX.

Another 'something' - you said you had lymph nodes removed, so have you seen a LymphEdema Therapist yet? Unfortunately, many Drs are really clueless about LE. It is important to get with a LymphEdema Therapist (not just some PT who claims they 'know all about LE' unless they have credentials that prove it) for education and baseline measurements. OTs can also be LETs - my Fantastic LET guy is an OT. Don't wait til LE raises it's ugly head (IF it does) to be educated about it.

Thank you for the help Kicks. I will ask about LE when I go back in 2 weeks. I have yet to get a MO but was told that will be soon. I have yet to meet with the RO as well. I see my surgeon who did the bypass before the surgery followup, so I will talk to him about it too.
