Katy: Your guess is as good, if not better, as anyone's.

    Happy New Year!

I braved it and popped my first Tamoxifen this morning. Does the time of day matter?

Happy New Year everyone! Emotionally I'm off to a shaky start...wondering what this year will bring. But trying to stay positive and pull myself back together.

Allison...good luck with the Tamoxifen. Hoping you will have no side effects! I'm not on Tamoxifen but with these anti-hormonals the time of day you take it seems to differ from person to person. Seems like most people do take it in the morning, but my Arimidex seemed to make me sleepy so I take it at night. You'll just have to take it a few days/weeks and experiment to see what works best for your body.

    Happy New Year, everyone!

Allison, medically it doesn't matter. It will take about two weeks for it to reach therapeutic levels in your system. I took mine at night, before I stopped, on the reasoning that if I had SEs, I might sleep through the worst. For example, any joint or bone pain. Or hot flashes. I was not able to sleep through the hot flashes in my case. Magnesium does seem to help though.

I read on some other threads that some people take it successfully in the morning with seemingly fewer hot flash problems. But how do you compare? Everyone is so individual. (Queue that annoying theme song again)

Hopefully you'll do just fine, but if you have problems you could try switching to night.

    Happy New Year to All!

Allison, I take my Tamoxifen with dinner so my stomach doesn't get annoyed, but I'm not sure if it makes any difference in regards to the SEs. I've been on it for about 6 months now and I do have to admit that while I still get hotflashes they became less frequent and less vicious. I don't know if it's because I got used to Tamoxifen, or because I started taking magnesium a few months ago.

I survived the MRI yesterday, I may have even fallen asleep a couple of times - thank you, Xanax. They told me the results would be ready at the beginning of next week because of the holiday, but I have been checking the patient portal every hour, each time close to fainting from fear.

BB, maybe stop checking until Monday, then?

I am actually going to try switching to AM tamoxifen because I'd rather have hot flashes and hip pain (neither bad, but they do affect my sleep) during the day when I can move around, strip, etc.

Anyone get false nails since chemo ended? Mine ended May 25th and I hate my nails, they are so short, I can't pick up stuff , scratch, nothing , its driving me mental. I want a false set of nails but I don't know if it's wise at this point or not.

Happy New Year! I've got my beans cooking, to be accompanied by ham, corn bread and Cole slaw, the country kind. Definitely need to bring this new year in the right way

I take it at night. I think my gp said to take it then. But that may be because that's when I take the rest of my drugs.

    Happy new year!

Theresa, this year we went with a ham and lentil stew for New Year's Eve. I usually do ham, collards, and black-eyed peas, but this year the stew will need to provide adequate new year's luck. We are reprising this meal, with cornbread and greens, with friends tomorrow.

Ksusan, yummy! There is enough southerner in me to love black eyed peas and collard greens! I grew up in southern Illinois, and I fondly remember all the country meals I ate there

I just signed up for 2 meals a week at Blue Apron but I am mad because after the fact I saw a groupon for 30 cheaper.

dang, Allison, you have to specify a protein and how much grease you want because a lot of southern food is high in fat. One yummy southern thing I do that isn't bad is I cook fresh green beans with a quarter of an onion, a clove of garlic, and a piece of cooked bacon with the drippings, some salt. Boil until the green beans are tender, they are delicious that way. Of course, even better with biscuits, fried ham, and country milk gravy made from the ham drippings, but I haven't eaten that in forever. Black eyed peas go well with that too

I'm trying to find out if anyone has got acrylic nails since chemo ended and does anyone have an opinion on that? I've googled it and there are differing points of view, I was wondering if anyone here has had it done?

Theresa my family is from southern Indiana and the green beans with bacon were a favorite growing up. My grandma would start with beans straight from the garden and cook them all day with bacon grease and potatoes. Probably cooked every bit of nutrition right out of them. For Christmas this year I made grandma's chicken and dumplings and yesterday a less traditional lentil and black eyed pea stew with tons of greens and veggies.

I used to make the green beans with onions and bacon for Christmas but it was taking so long and I was cooking other stuff so I know how to make it.

haha Sue, is that really a question?

Sloth, yum, chicken and dumplings, now there is a meal! Haven't eaten it in five years since I cut out carbs, sidetracked by chemo of course, but I'm gonna get back on my program. Why is all the best tasting stuff the worst health wise

Ha. Can you believe I moved from Southern California BACK to the midwest. I remember when I first move to California. It was in Jan. In Feb, we had temps in the 80's everyday for the entire month. I just kept thinking how on EARTH doesn't everyone know about this?

terry Marie, I am not sure if anyone has gotten acrylic nails. I cannot wear them at work, do I never have used them. Maybe post it as its own thread to have a wider audience

Allison what were you thinking lol? Although I do come back there in the snow some, it's kind of fun, especially since I don't have to live in it!

No acrylic nails here, so sorry can't be of any help. They don't work so well with bike riding.

Actually, T, if it's not too personal I'm curious as to why you hit the West coast. Obviously, none of my business....
