Here we go...
Just back from my primary doc so not much info. IDC grade 3 and my lymph node was positive. I'm trying really hard to be brave and strong in front of everyone, but I'm scared. I have to wait until next week to see any specialists.
This just sucks.

Hi LifeAloft (love your username...pilot?),
I'm so sorry to hear your news. It is tough to always be "brave and strong" so know that you don't have to be those things here. And if you discover you can't be those things when faced with all of the medical people/procedures (you know, the "medical who-haa") that's ok. Someone once told me "you don't have to be brave, you just have to show up."
What specialists are you scheduled to see?
Oh...and of course you're scared--fear of the unknown is one of the most basic fears. For kids, it's monsters in the closet or under the bed. For us? News like this. Once you know more, the fears will subside.
In the meantime, if you like to get info from books, let me suggest Dr. Susan Love's Breast Book. There will be a lot that doesn't apply to you, but I found an earlier edition really helpful when I was trying to get my head around what was going on and formulate questions. I believe a sixth edition came out in Sept. 2015.
Hang in there (and let us know how you're doing)!

Hi LifeAloft!
Sorry to hear your news. But, there's no reason to be "brave" and "strong" if you don't feel like it. If you're anxious, you may want to check with your doctor about an anti-anxiety med like Ativan or Xanax. I always keep a little stash of Ativan on hand, just in case something stressful arises.
I was also diagnosed with Grade 3 cancer with one node positive. Don't worry about the wait until your next appointment; nothing is going to change in a week.
LisaAlissa is right -- most of "fighting" cancer is just showing up for appointments, scans, treatment, whatever.
Hope you find out some more info soon! That will guide your treatment and get you settled into a plan.

Thank you all so much! It's just such a weird (best word I can think of) time. Much of yesterday I did nothing but cry, today has been a little better.
LisaAlissa: regarding my username, I started flying lessons a month ago, been wanting to do it for as long as I can remember, finally got the time, now all this happens
. I have to wait until Monday to get my appointments made, these darn holidays have made everything get pushed back. I'm not sure if I'm staying in my current hospital system and would like to get a couple of opinions
ElaineTherese: I do have Ativan, I've only taken it at night, I thought it may make me sleepy during the day? And thank you so much for the info, when I saw grade 3 with the positive node I'm picturing things spreading by the hour. It seems like so much hurry up and wait!
And thank you to the mods! This is a great place!

Bravery and strength are overrated. Fear of the unknown is normal. Once you finally have a treatment plan in place, you will feel calmer. Do what you need to do in the meantime to feel better and get better--and if that means conserving your energy, stepping back for a bit and letting others pitch in, I say go for it.

LifeAloft... I feel the same. Like its spreading and riding this wave throughout my body until I start treatment. And they never did us on my right breast and I have pain there similar to the dx left breast.
