edited January 2016 in Waiting for Test Results

New here, just wanted to come to a place where I knew I was safe and sound. I've been skimming through various boards and stories and this is truly a special place. What a sanctuary for women to hold one another up. It's kind of magical.

Anyway, the facts are these. Just over a year ago I found a lump in my right breast. Little bugger was tender but quite small, pea-sized and clearly fluid filled. I was 28 at the time and thought literally nothing of it, but was seeing my doc for an annual physical anyway so I thought I'd mention it. She said it was definitely just a cyst and I shouldn't worry about it, but if it were to start to change she'd want to check it out. Fast forward to 2 months ago. The cyst always swelled and was painful cyclically so I was never worried about it until 2 cycles ago when instead of just the cyst swelling my whole boob exploded. It was spilling out of my bra and very tender. I figured it would subside like it always does but it didn't. My pea-sized cyst was now a hard grape-sized lump so off to the doc I went. I was never worried, I have no family history and I'm a healthy, non-smoker who's main flaw is the hatred of exercise. Hate. Went to the doc, she was sure it was just fibrous tissue but she ordered a mammogram and an US of just my right breast just to make sure. I went to my appointment expecting absolutely nothing, but from the moment my right side mamm was done it was clear that something may not be right.

The technician went straight to the radiologist and he immediately said he needed to see the left as well. I still wasn't catching on, I'm a little slow. The techs told me I wouldn't see the radiologist, he'd just fill out a card and send the official results to my doc. So when the radiologist knocked on my door, that's when I got a bit concerned.

He told me that i have dense tissue in both breasts, totally normal, but there is tissue on the top view of the right that is not symmetrical or the same as the tissue on the left. That's where lumpy is. He told me he was concerned and was ordering a contrast MRI. That was a real downer. It very well could still be nothing, but I was really taken off guard. Now the MRI isn't until the 22nd of January. Which is going to be a fun exercise in mental fortitude. Really, for DH more than me.

I just needed a safe place to tell my story, a story that will hopefully and likely be this post and then one more to say "MRI is clear, thanks for being awesome."

Sorry you need to be here. The waiting is terrible. I found a lump in my right breast on Dec. 8th, went to my gyn on the 11th, and had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound on the 14th which confirmed a solid mass and a suspicious lymph node. My biopsy isn't until Jan. 5th. Wishing for benign results!

gosh that's a long time to wait. So sorry. They did the same thing to me. My ob/gyn felt a thickening in my right breast. I didn't even know it was there. She ordered a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound. I had to wait 3 weeks. I figured it was nothing since they took so frickin long to look at it. I hope yours is nothing. Maybe you could call and tell them this is causing you a lot of anxiety and is there a way they could get you in sooner. Worth a shot - the worst they can say is no. Hugs to you - you are young so chances are very good it's benign.

If I were you I would demand to get your MRI much sooner--that sudden enlargement of your breast could be just mastitis, but there’s a also chance it could be inflammatory breast cancer, which does grow faster than other types. Voice your concern and then demand an explanation about why they’re willing to make you wait. Better to be a pain in the ass, even if it makes you seem paranoid, and act on it, and then be proven wrong.

That is a long time to wait! I agree with ChiSandy. Call the doc's office on Monday and get somewhat agressive. You are your only advocate. Ask questions and then finish with, "I'm concerned. I'm concerned waiting so long isn't so good for my mental health. I'm concerned because my breast feels like it is exploding." Say this in a firm yet soft voice. Then pause for three seconds. "Is there any way I can do my test sooner, even if it is at another hospital or MRI clinic in town?" They should get the point.

On a lighter note, I love your nickname for the mass, Lumpy. LOL.
