Tamoxifen - Headaches, Mood Swings, and Leg Pain, Oh My!

Ok, so my major issue is my moods. Crying one, fuming another. Doc said I could go on an antidepressant, but he seemed to suggest counseling and just smiling through it. He seemed to think a lot of it is from fear of my cancer returning. I feel very much different since I'm off birth control & on Tamoxifen. I can't stand the constant fighting with my husband, and neither can he or my 9 year old daughter. (Of course, I keep reminding him that what upsets me isn't new, it's just I don't deal with it as well on the meds....) Anyway, I could use some suggestions. I guess I'm leaning toward the antidepressants because of my daughter, but I'd love to hear other experiences. Thanks!

    Laurajo,

Sorry to hear you are having a difficult time with the Tamoxifen. I too had a rough time initially and was a hot mess due to mood swings. So much so that my hubby lovingly calls my meds my crazy pills. Luckily, it seems to level off and get better after your body adjusts. Took me 3-6 months but I am almost back to normal. (Only slightly more sensitive..) I chose not to go on the antidepressants due to concerns about side effects but please do not hesitate if that is what is right for you. Just wanted to let you know that it does get better. Hang in there!
