    www.harmonyhill.org

You can only get a registration form on a pc so far, not a tablet or phone.

And they hadn't released the dates for 2016 yet in the mid fall. I'm not sure if they have dates open still, but they do maintain a cancellation list and I know someone who got in this way on short notice.

She just returned and said it was a great program. Lots of groups, mindfulness training, walking, beautiful grounds and great food. It is free for any cancer survivor regardless of when you had treatment. You don't have to be from Washington State. You are allowed to bring a support person, who in my case is Jack. (They might have to pay a stipend but I'm not sure about that They were very nice about that. They have been very nice and professional about everything. They even have an MD on staff I think.

If you think you could make that late April knew, I would call them today!

ETA: here are dates for all retreats. http://www.harmonyhill.org/2016-retreats/

They have general cancer, couples, women's, and lymphedema retreats. It looks like they have upgraded the site as I was able to access a signable e-application just now. I think I would have rather done the women's retreat but didn't want to wait so long. It's in November. You have to send a $100 refundable check before they will consider your application though.

Just glanced at the site. It sounds good but no specific retreats to BC?

Allison- that is correct. However, they told me verbally they do get a lot of BC survivors. The women's retreats would probably be highly oriented that way.

Though I would prefer an all BC retreat, my MOs nurse who is a rock star, and has a husband who had cancer and gets it, has talked to me numerous times about how I can learn survivorship, which she views as a skill, (I still hate the word though) from any type of person who has had or has any type of cancer. She feels there are many benefits to "in person" support, and that it would outweigh the non specificity to breast cancer. Maybe true. Worth a try for me I think.

It also occurs to me that most attendees would be recent dx-ees, which I think is way more relevant to me than, say, the local cancer support group. Some people have survived 20 years and no longer felt the fear, I thought, when I went. Talked more about their hunting, fishing, and vacation trips. Not so helpful for me right now. I'm glad for them, and it's somewhat instructive to see they havegotten over it.

But I need people who are, or who have recently been in the trenches in order to relate, I think.

Sloth- I do approve! You might even tell them you are a friend through bco and don't mind a roommate with a quasi service dog! They know he's a therapy dog and not a true service dog, but theysay ok. But it might be difficult for them to fill the other bed in the room.

I'm sure Jack would be happy to provide therapy to both of us!

If you call them and they are open to this, pm me. I will call them and confirm its good. I could drive into Portland and we could go the rest of the way together. Incidentally, I would be willing to change dates to accommodate this idea.

    Fuzzy!

I get in bed gradually--first I sit, then recline, then add a blanket. That decreases the initial bedtime heatwave. In the night, use a throw over a thin blanket so I can remove it without waking my partner. I try to consider the nighttime hot flash/toilet visit an opportunity to decrease stress on my bladder :)

We are going out in the city with friends for New Year's Eve. These friends have been ones to really step up and be there for me emotionally since my dx. I am resisting the urge to stay home and cry about this last year. So much of it a foggy horrible memory. I hope I can keep it together at midnight. I hate my hair but need to stop saying that. Maybe that is one of my new year resolutions.

posted on exercise forum but to recap I hit my 3,000 mile cycling goal for the year but my ride ended because my tire got struck in a big crack in the pavement and now I'm at urgent care waiting for stitches to the side of my right eyebrow. I'm not even shocked or surprised. 2015 needs to be over and I'm gonna drink a bottle of whiskey to usher in 2016

ouch theresa! I'm so sorry to hear that. But very happy about re a hint that milestone. If it had to happen, im sorta glad it happened in 2015.

Katy, great to see jack and hear you at the beach. It's so good for the soul.

Carrie, have fun. Yep I think I need to stop worrying about the hair. I think I'll have a quiet one. The heat is taking its toll on Bowie and me.

As I'm the first one seeing in the new year, I'll have a drink for us all and say goodbye to the year that stood still.

For those interested in research. They have identified a protein that is involved in the spread of BC. It could be reduced by anti inflammatory drugs

    Protein

Interesting Sharon! I always cringe when anti-inflammatories are the treatment for things - only because I can't take them since I've had gastric bypass surgery. But, I always tell people that if you are stranded on a desert island and you could only have 3 drugs...an NSAID would definitely be on my list. Inflammation (regardless of the protein or process involved) is responsible for so many ailments but I strongly believe that our diets are the main culprit in most inflammatory processes.

I agree. What also interesting is a clinical trial they are doing with anti inflammatories for lymphoedema (ketoprofen). I'm going to see if my Dr will prescribe them for me. I take a different type for RA. But I'm sure he won't mind if I swap.

Hi guys. So my initial thought for the Chicago get-together is April 8 and 9 at the AmericInn in Schaumburg, IL.

    https://www.americinn.com/hotels/il/schaumburg

I haven't called them yet re: group rates--thought I'd get your input first. If you'd rather be close to downtown, I can check that out as well.

    Thoughts???

SueH58, bike tire got caught in a groove in the road and I went down. At least I had a helmet on. The damn sunglasses are what cut my eyebrow, helmet saved my head. Couple of tiny patches of road rash, no broken bones though. And yep,I am expecting a nice black eye!
