Anyone have biopsies after an MRI that were not malignant?
Hi,
I am 43 with no family history of breast cancer (until my 73 year old mom was diagnosed last month-- but she is 73 and obese whereas I have no other major risk factors-- I am Jewish but they don't think I have the BRCA gene and I should find that out today or tomorrow. They found a lump during my regular mammogram that is 1.3CM and malignant. On the recommendation of the radiologist I had an MRI which showed one area in the same breast and 2 in the other that are "suspicious". I am aware of the controversy of the MRI and how they bring a lot of false positives. So I'm wondering what others' experiences have been. In the meantime I am scheduled to do more biopsies next week but the waiting is horrible. I cannot seem to believe that I would have additional cancers. But I guess my only choice is to go forth with these biopsies. Thanks.

hello,
Yes for fat necrosis. But I had a birad 3 and asked for the biopsies just to make sure I was ok.
Thanks

Best to you. My fraternal twin sister had an MRI that lit up an area and her biopsy was negative. THey "swore" mine would be negative, mine was positive....interestingly, the same area on the same breast for both of us.

Hi Sara223 - I had 2 benign biopsies that were originally found on a MRI. The BS told me this is common as the MRI picks up everything. Best of luck, and hugs to you.

Hi Sara,
All my best wishes to you. Yes, an area on a MRI can not be malignant.
I had a suspicious area on my MRI (Sept 4), and a follow up ultrasound (Sept 18) was inconclusive. Biopsy (Sept 28) was benign (results Oct 5). It was an area of hyperplasia. But it was be a long time from MRI to biopsy results.

Yes, my sister had an MRI after I was diagnosed. They found a spot in each breast. Both were biopsied, both were benign.

Yes. I had an MRI which showed additional areas of concern in both breasts after needle biopsy confirmed positive results in R breast and lymph node. All additional areas were negative, but I'm very glad they were biopsied. It brought me great peace of mind
