Wheatgrass okay before surgery?
Hi ladies, my bilateral masectomy is scheduled for next week and yesterday and today I took a double shot of wheatgrass to boost my immune system (makes me feel great, helps with stress) but then I started wondering if I shouldn't be doing wheatgrass so close to surgery. Does anyone know if it is not okay to take wheatgrass shots before surgery? I know it boosts the blood but I have never heard it thins it. I can't find an answer to this question on the internet. Would appreciate any help. God bless you all.

Hi mepic, I can't speak for wheatgrass specificallly, but my anaesthetist told me to go off all supplements for 10 days before my surgery. He let me continue the Olive Leaf Extract, and my pro biotics, and didn't have a problem with my fermented spirulina and maxi greens. He said foods were ok, but he didn't know if there could be a problem with some supplements. I'd be surprised if there was a problem with wheatgrass, but I am no expert.
I also added more garlic, and put handfulls of herbs in my salads, and in the chicken soup I made, to help my immune system too. I did really well, and healed quickly. I had a small area of infection, about 2cm, but it cleared up fast, and I have kept up the immune building foods too.
I wish you all the very best for your surgery next week, please come back and let us know how you are doing.

I was juicing right up until surgery...just had to get off all aspirin, Vitamin E, etc.

Thank you for responding Denise. I'm glad to hear that it's okay because it sure has made me feel better the last couple of days and I am hoping it will help me heal quicker after surgery. I am actually realizing that the stress has affected my sleeping which has made me feel really run down and the wheatgrass has been like a pick-me-up and I am feeling not just physically but emotionally better. Thanks again, be well
