Mastectomy of right breast, November 6, 2015.

Clean margins, no lymph node involvment, no spread.

Stage 1c. Taking Arimidex. Still waiting for oncoscore.

Doctor said I was healing nicely though a bit slowly. He said this is to be expected from someone who is diabetic and has kidney disease and not alarming. Six weeks after the surgery the right breast suddenly swelled enormously, turned purple and hard as a rock. It also felt very hot. No pain. The doctor diagnosed a hematoma and surgically drained it. The next day he said it was fine and sent me home with antibiotics. I've had no problems but the breast still feels a little warm (but not hot as before). Is this normal after surgery to have this feeling of warmth? I was in sort of a daze after the mastectomy and didn't notice. His office is closed for the holiday and I won't be able to ask until Monday. Of course I'm going to go crazy worrying!

My doctor pointed out that my chest might feel warmer and my heartbeat would be more evident because the mastectomy removed all the otherwise-insulating breast tissue.

Call your Drs office - there should be someone on call to answer concerns. If not your Dr personally, then one of his/her partners should be on call 24/7 for their patients.
