Does walking a mile home after my car broke down count?
-
Cubbie- oh dang, sorry to hear that. Walking good, car breaking down, NOT GOOD! I hope you are able to get your car running again this week before the holiday weekend. Hugs sister.
-
Oh Cubbie it sure does count and I hope you are able to get it fixed quickly and for little dollars. Jazzy such a lovely altar and what a nice ritual at this busy time of the year. LB great gift, those Star Wars memories last a lifetime. Jersey if Santa doesn't hear you there is nothing wrong with buying yourself a nice gift, you deserve it. Annie enjoy your beach time. Heidi when I went to one of the links there was an ad for a hip hop dance class and I thought that is what you were doing but then I figured it out, looks like fun.
My best friend arrived from Australia yesterday and I took her straight from the airport to the bridal store where my Goddaughter was trying on dresses again but this time with her Stepmom, Sister and Maid of Honor along as well and she said yes to the dress (the one that made me cry last weekend) then last night we went with a group on a gondola ride through the canals of Naples to see the Christmas lights and we had a lovely gondolier singing Christmas songs for us, poor girl was exhausted as we figured she had been up for 31 hours, tonight we are going to Balboa Island to walk and see the Christmas lights.
Have been keeping up with the exercise, went to Zumba on Friday night. On Saturday went to the grand opening of a new 24 Hour Fitness close to home, did a 90 minute class called "dance war battle" it was Zumba/U Jam mash up lots of fun on the basketball court which was packed so it was unbearably hot but the funnest part about this club is that they have virtual screens in all the group rooms, you can go into the bike room and bike through Michigan or Alaska and I hit the play button on Sh'bam and danced myself silly - I started out on my own but other people came in and joined me - now I wouldn't do it at home alone but I will go up there and hit that play button again oh and LB they have Body Flow on it as well so I did a little of 70 you can use the virtual screens anytime there is no scheduled class. Yesterday went to Zumba on the way to the airport so as you can see all I've done is dance, dance, dance.
My internet has been down at home for the last 3 days I've tried all the tricks I know but can't get it up and running so I'm going to have to make that dreaded call to the cable company, ughhhh.
-
Have to check if our 24-hour fitness has that though I don't really need a club for exercise but you never know. Would love to do a spin class without the class!
Water aerobics this morning but that's it for today.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Ruth . . .love the story.
Jersey. . .8K+ steps is great. Santa should bring you and me a new Fitbit surge (hint hint). My dd is so addicted to her Fitbit Charge that she freaked when her new job said no watches etc. . .so I had to pony up for a Zip that she can wear at work. Now she wants my HR. If it gets me a Surge, I'm up with that.
Cubbie. . .heck yeah, every step counts. Fingers crossed that the fix is cheap and simple.
Jazzy. . .love the pix. Takes me back to my Celtic roots.
One more work day and off for 5 straight. Seeing MO in the morning to get something to help with sleep until work settles down.

What a great, busy group we are!
Subbed today, had an eye doctor appointment, went to Zumba but didn't stay for yoga because I had a couple more errands that needed to be done TODAY. I am contemplating putting in a 30 minute toning DVD of some sort (which I better do quick as it is 8:30 pm already. The last day of school before break is tomorrow, so the kids will be WILD!
P.S. Santa always brings me what I want because, as his assistant, I buy the gifts for him!
-
Great picture, Ruth! I have a Santa hat I wear too, along with various other costumes for other holidays. Being a teacher of young special needs children does that to you! Ha Ha
Not much exercise for me today......dentist, errands and a nap. I did not sleep well last night. Oh, well, some days are like that. Have better plans for tomorrow.
-
Hi everyone and welcome to the new folks. I haven't posted much nor been as active as I want to be this past week but do gain inspiration from you. Also loved that story Ruth.
My goals this Christmas week is to keep my fitbit humming. Over time, my weekly steps have greatly increased so I'm trying to focus on the positive right now.
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate.
-
Ruth your friend Ester sounds like she is a pistol.
Tonight walked around Balboa Island with a group of friends looking at beautiful Christmas decorated houses we did almost 3 miles of meandering. -
Good morning friends- my last post for a bit, as I am headed to the west coast for the holiday weekend. I have my work out gear packed and plan to be walking every day while I am out there!
I ran into a woman yesterday at my client site that I hardly recognized. She was morbidly obese for a long time, but has lost 130 pounds since I saw her a year ago. I said "wow, how did you do it?" and she said the regular old fashioned way- diet and exercise. Beyond the weight, there was a true lightness about her spirit-the change has transformed her. So keep up the good work ladies, for those trying to shed pounds (me too!)
For those of you celebrating Christmas this week, blessings for a good holiday with family and friends. Will be back here next week!
-
Hi, everybody, I have been in a bad place this past week. I have not felt good enough to stay as active as I need to be. I am dropping by on a regular basis to read your posts.
Knowing you are here will help me keep my fitness and weight loss goals top of mind. You are inspiring and motivating, and I will most certainly keep working at my plan despite recent problems.
In the meantime, I got outside yesterday and deadheaded the roses. It is almost Christmas and they are still blooming. I did laundry and put new sheets and pillowcases on my mom's sleeping area, the couch since the equipment supply company took away my mom's medical bed. That activity was more demanding than I thought it would be.
I have miles to go before I sleep (Robert Frost, "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening").
-
Back-to-back deep water aerobics class this morning - 2 hours! Will try and check-in over the next few days if my tablet cooperates while I'm away. At least I'm taking some of our warm weather (80's) north (50-60's) with me. Don't expect to get much 'real' exercise in but will try to keep my teeth/tongue/lips/mouth under control.
DecisionFreak, sorry you are having such stress. You are in my prayers and you still encourage me as you do tasks that keep you out of the chair so all is good.
Night sculpted friends and a Merry Christmas to all.
-
Does anyone have a jawbone tracker? I saw a lady at work that had one and I liked the way it looked better than the Fitbit, so I wondered if anyone else had a review. I think Santa is getting me something else, but my-mommy will give me money so I'm planning ahead!
Jersey I hope you've been a good girl so Santa will bring you a new Fitbit.
Cubbie sorry about the car. Oh that sucks but hope it's a minor repair and luckily only a mile.
Cheryl I so want to see the dress that made you cry! What a fun experience. I have no daughters but maybe I'll get to go with a niece or daughter in law one day.
Jazzy what a beautiful solstice setting for a relaxing yoga. Best part about solstice is every day gets longer now.
Annie how nice to be at the beach for Christmas. It made me want to join you
Decision freak tomorrow is another day and I hope yours will be better.
For all heading out have a happy holiday. I have a weejk off starting tomorrow and I intend to walk every day so I'll be here holding down the fort.
Today my only exercise was traipsing through the mall at lunch finishing shopping. Now I'm going to a different mall to returns something I bought earlier and don't like as well. I always shop till the end.
-
TwoHobbies, I have a friend who has a jawbone tracker and she likes it. It is easier to put on and off your wrist than the fitbit, although I like my simple fitbit zip, which just clips on. Look at both!
Hope this helps.
-
I survived the last day of school before vacation, went to Barre, and am now trying to get organized around here. I will have company coming in late in the day so I have lists & lists to accomplish before then.
Gardening is good exercise, house cleaning is good exercise, shopping is good exercise, walking on the beach is the BEST exercise (to me), as long as you're moving it's all good!
-
Stirring six Christmas puddings worth of batter is right up there on the exercise front. Ran 5k again today after a major work crisis, but no sleet today, just clouds. I could see the snow-covered mountains in the distance on my return.
The work crisis was my misunderstanding so had to scramble to put things right. Post run, got in some extra steps as my can opener died in the midst of the pudding operation, so off to the supermarket across the way to get a new one.
First batch of puddings is now steaming. Think my neighbors are going to hate me again for the wonderful scents coming from my place. But the puddings need to be done as promised to a number of people, and also my way of keeping a family tradition going.
Still have weights to life prior to dinner. Dinner is mostly made, and think I will make some Ulli's brats to go with the vegetables I have in the fridge. The real deal and absolutely delish. Got them last week in Pike Place Market. - Claire
-
The pudding sounds wonderful!
Here's what it looked like today where I live. The buffalo statue is part of a Frontier Village (tourist stop). Real buffalo live there too, including several rare albinos, which are sacred to the Native American people (your geography and history lesson for the night .)
-
hi all, off work today and of course up early. Got in a quick walk and will do again this afternoon.
Need to hit Goodwill for pretty Christmas cookie plates. Also have two bags of clothes to donate.
I've given my DH two reminders about culling his clothes. There's stuff he hasn't worn since we moved here 15 years ago. Should I give one more nudge or just do it myself?
Safe travels to those headed out. Good Solstice (welcome longer days) and Merry Christmas!
-
Ooooo, Ruth - my favorite buffalo! He looks cold in all that snow - someone needs to make him a doggie coat. Love the story about your friend and her sister! Patoo- so exciting about the new house - please do keep us posted on the building process. You too - Badger, as you renovate your new place! As for DH - maybe cull the clothes for him, then give him one last chance to rescue any favorites before you take it all to Goodwill! Cubbie - so sorry about the car - hope it gets fixed pronto. Lilac - love the Star Wars outing for your son - great birthday present!
All the goodies everyone is making sound yummy!!
I've been offline and not exercising for a bit - there's a nasty flu bug that's circulating around work, and of course both DH and I were hit. It all started with one woman who came to work when she was sick as a dog - her entire unit went down a week later, and from there it spread to the rest of the building. I wish people would stay home when they are sick!! Sometimes people have no choice, but in this case we work for the county and people get a humane amount of sick leave, so there's really no excuse. This particular woman has been here for years and has tons of unused sick leave she could have used, and there's nothing she was working on that couldn't have waited for a few days. I'm finally starting to feel better today. I'd better be feeling good tomorrow as it's my birthday (the big Six-Oh) and I refuse to be sick on my birthday! I'm taking the day off and promised myself a nice daytime run to celebrate. I also have a hair cut and a pedicure planned, then we're off to the cabin for the long Christmas weekend.
-
Ruth, thanks and love the joke - very English. Mary, hope you feel completely better quick. Cheryl, in my early 20's I lived in Balboa and the boats & houses decorated are very pretty. Well, left said newly minted 17 year old in the cinema foyer with all the tickets waiting for his friends. He said, mum, you can go now, I've got this, don't worry. Gave him a kiss, lot's of cash to cover the 7 of them for dinner afterwards and walking to the car thinking of birthday parties past. Yes, I'll be a wreck when he goes off to uni.
Happy Christmas Eve Eve everyone!
-
Happy Birthday, Mary. 60 is the new 30......or at least the new 40!!!!!
I will post a picture of the walking ladies in a minute. The guy peeking through the trees in the background is a retired teacher guy friend who decided to join the group (for today anyway). Busy, busy here. How was I so crazy to book a dental checkup for the day before Christmas?????
Anyway, I am going to try to hit Zumba next and company comes in later tonight, so if I can't sneak back online for the next couple days; have the merriest of holidays........eat, drink, laugh, sing, play games......and sneak in a tiny bit of exercise!
-
-
Cute pictures Ruth. wow bison are big in ND!
Lilac those letting go moments are never easy whether they are 2 or 20.
Badger I'd weed out the clothes. Lay them on the bed and tell him you're packing them up. I need to do the same at our house. In fact my New Years resolution is to de-clutter and organize each room. Again.
Thanks my sunshine, for the jawbone info. i can't decide if I want to splurge or stay lower tech.
It is unusually warm here. I took a 30minute walk this evening enjoying everyone's lights and wearing only a sweater. I also ran up and down the stairs at least 50 times wrapping presents and cleaning up. but I'm done andready for Christmas !
-
Mary. . .hope you are completely on the mend and Happy Birthday.
Ruth. . .luv the pixs, especially the buffalo statute.
Decision. . .tomorrow is always a new day.
Claire. . .wow on the puddings. I can't even finish my shopping without trouble.
My exercise today was a lesson in utter frustration. Dh's computer bit the dust and long story short the new one we bought had a faulty operating system. I waisted my entire day setting it up, talking with tech support who tried to jack me for more warranty money before they would help and then factory resetting it so I can return it tomorrow for another one. Arrgh.
Tomorrow has to be better.

Whew! Just caught up on all the posts during my recent absence. I have continued my workout schedule with bootcamp 3 nights per week and various other exercise on alternate days. Unfortunately it has not been enough to offset all the goodies incurred during the last few weeks. In addition to the holiday festivities, we have several coworkers retiring this month so other luncheons and potlucks have derailed the usual diet. Will get back on track after the holiday and check in regularly again.
Mary, Happy birthday!!! Hope you feel better and enjoy your day!
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday and safe travels to anyone traveling.
-
DH and I went to the mountains for 2 days. Today we did LOTS of walking and he was spent...when I told him we walked over 5 miles he was like what!!! Granted that was in 2 walks, but he said he never walks that much!!! He does walk with me every night and he runs and exercises, but he doesn't do long walks. Today, I managed 20K+ steps. Its been a decent walking week so far. We were above 9,000 ft so a little less air, plus walking on snow and today it was in the 20's. Yesterday we went for a hike and it was so pretty out....like snow falling just picture perfect!!
Wishing everyone who celebrates Christmas a most wonderful holiday. Karen
-
Take a picture for us, Karen. As much as I enjoy the warm weather, I'm seriously dreaming of a picturesque snow for Xmas.
-
Happy Birthday, Mary! 60 isn't what it used to be LOL. We're getting older, wiser and better.
TH, I'm with you, enjoying the warmer weather but also dreaming of a white Christmas. We've had rain, rain and more rain. Had it been snow, I think we'd be up to our waists by now!
Just doing the last load of laundry then packing up for a few days at MIL's for family get-together.
We have some seriously good cooks in this family so I'm going to eat, drink & be merry. ♥ to all!
-
Happy Happy Birthday Mary. Absolutely no exercise for me for the past few days, what with company and then my cold is back up and running at full speed thanks to two people who I've come in contact with who coughed and spluttered all over me, yike - I have been awake since 2am as I can't breathe, my head is stopped up then I have been crazy busy at work doing everyone's last minute mailing, one business dropped 1000 Christmas cards off to me on Tuesday with no notice and expected me to just wave my magic wand and get them in the mail, finally put my foot down yesterday when a client wanted to come by today and expected me to get their job finished and in the mail today, not happening as I'm finishing up another last minute project. I say no exercise but today I'll be hauling 70 bags of mail to the post office so I'll be getting in a bit of unorthodox weightlifting!!!! We've had rain too Badger not much but it's also been cold, well cold for us, laughable for you.
I'll jump back on the exercise wagon next week but just wanted to stop by and wish all of you who celebrate a very Merry Christmas and give you all a
-
Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I kept my promise to myself and just got back from a 3 mile run. It is unbelievably warm and humid here 65° - wow.
About to head out and run some errands. I bought some tech running shirts for DH for Christmas and when I was wrapping them I found the clerk forgot to remove the inventory tags. I also realized I grabbed the wrong size on some shorts I bought for him. So now I have to hit sports authority on Christmas eve to get the correct size shorts and to get the stupid tags removed from the shirts. So much for shopping early and trying to avoid the crowds!
To all who celebrate have a wonderful Merry Christmas!
