edited January 2016 in Waiting for Test Results

Hello,

I haven't had a mammogram since '09. I'm 48, 3 kids, maternal grandmother had breast cancer and I found a lump about 4 months ago. I thought that it was my mole, but noticed in the shower two weeks ago that it felt larger and tender/slightly painful. Called my gyno and was scheduled for diagnostic mamm and an ultrasound that I had yesterday. I saw the mass right away... Sort of a rounded off triangular shape with thick walls, fuzzy dark gray and black inside and had a bright white spot(similar to a nipple) inside of it. The radiologist came in, performed the ultrasound again and said he couldn't tell what it was but asked what my schedule was for the next couple of days. That was yesterday at 3pm and they scheduled me for a core biopsy this am... 7:30am. This dr took 5 core samples and put in a marker. I also had a follow up mammogram. They were all very professional, concerned acting and didn't give me any clue as to what this is. The most info I got was that it was 6mm. So... I'm guessing it's not a cyst. I'm also guessing that they have a high level of concern. And with Christmas two days away, I may not hear results until well into next week. I'm a mess. Any similar stories with diagnosis?

it was so much better than I thought it would be. He did a great job of numbing the breast. I will say that it was a bigger procedure than I initially thought. But, I felt zero pain and I'm in bed with my dogs resting, icing and scanning the Internet;) Good luck tomorrow

I had mine done Monday on 2 spots - easy peasy.  No pain (just nerves) during and tender now but it is the waiting that is the hard part.  good luck tomorrow!!

I had mine Monday and they told me I would hear today that results are available in 48 hours....it is mid-afternoon so I don't know.   But if you had yours today probably Monday is when you will hear - that is a tough wait!!  Good luck, breathe and stay positive.

Actually, yes. I had my mammo/ultrasound on Dec. 3rd, then had my core biopsy yesterday afternoon. I too, am waiting on results over the holidays, which totally sucks. I'm not as anxious today, as I was the days leading up to the biopsy, but then again, I was so sore last night and this morning from the biopsy that I've hopped myself up on Vicodin and that's taking the edge off. Hang in there - I was told that I probably wouldn't hear anything until Monday, possibly Tuesday. The waiting is horrible.

Hopefully we all get a nice Christmas gift with good news! Surprisingly I'm not sore! Literally had ice on it all day and haven't had to touch Tylenol... Yet;) Heading to dinner and Christmas shopping to ease the mood/funk I'm in. And... To have some wine to relax me🍷

I had mine today also, 2 spots plus a lymph node. They put 2 markers in me also. I'm feeling pretty good, no pain, just emotionally exhausted. They told me that I likely would hear anything until Monday.

I know exactly what you ladies are feeling, it's tough. Here's to hoping that we all get good news.

Had some cramp-like pains tonight but still haven't taken any meds... Not even Tylenol. Back in bed for the night with another ice pack, which I think has been the key to pain management.

Has anyone told their kids? Mine are 22,21 and 17 and just think I'm such an air head, why am I napping(because I'm up all night thinking about this and googling all morning...) and why I have delayed Christmas shopping and activities. I think I'll wait until the results. Until then, they can continue to think that I'm a loser🙄 Positive thoughts ladies

That's awesome that you're not sore. I'm still tender, 2 days later. Crossing my fingers for good news for both of us!

A year ago, I was in a place very similar to where you ladies all are. On December 23, 2014 I found a lump on my left breast. I called my doctor the next day but could not get in for a mammogram until January 6, 2015. On January 9th, I found out I had breast cancer.

The waiting was very hard, so I totally get how hard the next few days will be. I'm so glad you all have found BCO now- I didn't find BCO until after I was diagnosed. Let the holidays distract you instead of the biopsy results distracting you. Enjoy your friends and family and know that you can always worry later.

Merry Christmas to everyone! I hope for negative results for all of you!

Hope you all had a good Christmas! What an emotional roller coaster, one minute I'm fine and happy, then next I'm near tears, I just want this weekend to be over so I can have my results. Trying to prepare myself for the worst, but that makes it tough to put on a happy face. So many different thoughts and emotions going through my head.

I also had a Core Biopsy on Dec 23. I am suppose to receive my report on Monday, they gave me an appointment to come back for the results. Had the diagnostic and ultrasound on the 17th. at that time they found a 1.7cm mass next to the chest wall on the left breast. The waiting is very hard on me. I ask the dr that done the test to tell me what he thought but he wouldn't. It has been a very bad Christmas and tomorrow is my birthday so I am sure I won't enjoy that either (lol). I am trying very hard for my family to act normal.

My husband & son already knew I was going for a biopsy (2 wks between diagnostic ultrasound & core-needle biopsy, with a marvelous working vacation in New Orleans, PA and a local folk festival in between). But my husband is a cardiologist (I had told him but not my son about the anomaly on the screening mammo), and they both knew not to jump to any conclusions. When I got my results only a day later, I told my son first because my husband had office hours and was working late seeing patients. Son immediately decided to call in sick from his assignment running lights & sound for the standup open mic at his comedy collective, in order to be there for me and allow me to inform him as to what we should expect next. They’ve been great.

Of course, with younger kids it’s a much more delicate situation. Might be worth consulting a psychologist or their pediatrician before you tell them.

The waiting and trying to remain normal and happy for my family during the holidays is just plain hard. Hopefully I get some news tomorrow.

Question... Everyone tells me that their radiologist gave them an indication of what showed up on the ultrasound. Am I correct to assume that it wasn't a cyst? Because a cyst can be diagnosed via ultrasound...? And a core biopsy was scheduled the very next day at 7:30am. They were very poker faces but overly sweet. Seems to me they know already. But still, they didn't share any info as to what it would be.

He took 5 samples and put in a marker. That was on Tuesday the 22nd. If a core biopsy is scheduled immediately, it's suspicious to the radiologist.... Right?

MLP, you can always get a copy of the report from your imaging. The Mammo will be given a BIRADS rating/score. I don't know that an immediate biopsy is any indication of anything. I asked my Radiologist what the chances were and he told me 50/50...but I could tell by the pitiful look on his face, that it was more like 90/10. So, when I got "the call", I was not really that surprised. I don't even remember what my BIRADS score was, to be honest. It was all kind of a blur by that time. The waiting is so hard. I waited a week to tell my son because he was on an anniversary honeymoon with his bride the day after I found out. He was actually in my house when I got the call and I ran to my bathroom to take the call. I guess I put on a good front, because he never knew until I told him, when he got back. Remember, most biopsies are benign. I hope you all get B9 results too!

    Thanks keepthefaith;)

Why didn't they offer me a copy of the report or access to it? They just told me that I will get a call in 2-5 business days by the breast center liaison or my gyno. I keep checking my online records via patient gateway and nothing is listed.

After my mammogram and ultrasound the radiologist said that there were moderately concerning things seen. However, two days later when I found the mammogram and ultrasound summary on my electronic chart I saw the Birads 5 rating, so kinda more than moderately concerning.

MLP3, I had my biopsy last Wednesday. They didn't tell me anything, but I'm a Birads 5, so preparing for the worst. They biopsied 2 spots and a lymph node, put in 2 markers.

    Hello all,

I just looked at my online results and the preliminary findings after mammogram and ultrasound and before the core biopsy was done are as follows...

    6mm hypoechoic lesion, margins irregular

    Bi-rad 4

    Site read-2

Doesn't sound very promising does it?

Why do you think that? Better than 80% of Bi-Rads 4 biopsies come out benign

really? So I should just hang in there until the biopsy comes back. I'm doing ok, just wished a birads 3 came back instead of a 4. Hopefully good news within the next couple of days. The second ultrasound results will be posted tomorrow that was done right before my biopsy and by a different radiologist. Maybe the second dr changes the rating...? But I guess it will ultimately come down to the biopsy results. The waiting SUCKS😬

    hello,

I think it's the holiday season that sucks!!

You re supposed to be enjoying Cheistmas and at the same time, having to deal with all these issues.

I proposely scheduled mine for January but anxiety is catching me up, post reduction mammogram and ultrasound and funny nodes which could be anything under. The sun.

Good luck to everyone. This is a hard time. I find that using guided meditation and breathing exercises works and trying (not easy) to focus on the here and now. But everyone has their own thing

    Best

I'm hoping for results today. For some reason I woke up in a good place mentally... I will most likely have a rough year ahead of me, but I'll get through it and power on. Reading these boards have been a great source of encouragement and I can't thank you ladies enough. I can do this!!!!
