Good morning friends- wonderful 90 min yoga class yesterday. A friend told me about these really fun "holiday leggings" at Walmart, so I had to get a pair. Found some with Xmas lights all over them. They were a great hit in class yesterday!

ruthbru, I need to post this picture somewhere and look at it when I think I am too tired or sick to exercise. Yuk!! It is a game changer.

er, but, I just got an idea for hilarious game! I have to ponder it. It is a long shot, but if I figure it out I will send you a royalty agreement! May be I can figure out a way to pay for thousands and thousands of dollars of medical care...and while I am day dreaming maybe you could stop herding cats and trying to navigate crummy weather. Still, who knows!

Wonderland, you are steady on. Keep being you, and I will try to be a better me than I feel I am today.

patoo, could you pass whatever you are drinking my way? I don't even feel like writing a grocery list.

    Jazzygirl, rock on, girlfriend!

mysunshine48, would you like to come over here and clean out my closets? I promise you will burn hundreds of calories.

Decision, good luck with the game! I would be most happy to share in the profits Winking, but I actually still sub because I want to....I wouldn't have picked this particular schedule (for sure) but am doing it as a favor for a friend while she recovers from surgery.

Did an hour of various toning exercises with Denise Austin. Now I must go forth and navigate the Christmas Crowds.

Well, I've been up and moving as much as possible since coming home from BMX... on the 30th... Clipped on my Fitbit for movement motivation, and streamlined my eating habits back to where I wanted to be... more veg and fruit, no processed sugar/foods, if possible, plenty of water, and more exercise. I've lost 6lbs since I came home! Yay!

I've been getting frustrated with myself the last few days, because I feel so good and want things to heal and improve faster, but I realize that's just my brain and personality taking over. I know that Monday marks 3 weeks post op BMX/no recon, so I think I'm doing well, just trying to keep moving, yet be patient. Especially with the ROM exercises... I don't want to do any damage to my healing process either.

So thankful for all of you, and your constant inspiration.

Ruth. . .that is exactly why I'm now smaller and leaner again after 8 months on treadmill/hiking but I have lost only a few pounds. I'm at a stage where I feel great in my #Gap #Sexyboyfriendjeans and don't give a *#/&*#^/ what I weigh. Also helps my ego that my almost 20yr incredibly athletic dd borrows my jeans and tops because we're the same size. Dh reminded me today that I should be happy about that when I whined about her borrowing my new jacket.

Patoo. . .we will expect regular pixs of your building progress. Was just telling dh yesterday that I've discovered a great place to retire. Since I was born in FL, I definitely should retire there.

Jersey. . .that's great that you are getting out with your Fitbit. Remember slow and go though.

Finally got back in the gym today after two nights of good sleep and a long nap today. Absolutely cannot function on no sleep and will talk to MO about that on Tuesday.

Thanks to all of you inspiring ladies for keeping me going!

That's a great visualization of how fat takes up less space than muscle, Ruth.

Jersey it sounds like you are doing well even if it's not as speedy as you would wish.

I walked 20 minutes this morning before dawn and then spent five hours Christmas shopping. I'll be asleep early tonight.

ruthbru, my kudos to you for being capable of substituting. I taught at several universities in my 20s. I did a credible job, and the students liked me. In my 50s, I taught again, but I didn't click with very many students. I lacked patience, and I got tired easily. It didn't work despite all of my academic training and real world experience. It may have been because I was teaching at community colleges instead of four year universities.

I was so upset the last time I taught and bombed out with the students that I would do class lectures in my sleep on all kinds of topics. This went on for a year.

I am wondering now if this early stage breast cancer might have been disrupting my mind and body for a long time. I am starting to feel better than I did before the first surgery, much better. May be when the surgeon gets the rest of the DCIS cells out, and I have hopefully a short course of rads, I will recover some of my zest for life.

The RO wants me to do at least one form of adjuvant therapy. It may be that I do rads and skip chemo preventive drugs. It is turning out that there are other serious health reasons why I may not be a candidate for AI drugs.

I may have to lose enough weight to achieve a low body mass index and be extremely physically active. I may have to be a lean fat burning machine and live without the drugs. The women on this site remind me that I have to keep working toward an active lifestyle and find ways to enjoy it.

It is eye opening to read about the incredibly varied ways the women here stay active. My options at the moment are limited but my life could change as I look for new ways to stay active. It is a journey not a destination.

hi all and welcome Lisa/bluedog. I'm also 56 but was dx six years ago at age 50. I'm still on this thread because I've made some great friends and it helps me stay on-track. That said, you guys have made me hungry for my mom's turmeric coleslaw.

mysunshine, cleaning out closets & drawers and packing IS work, been doing a lot of that lately.

Making Christmas cookies this weekend. Today was rum balls and pecan sandies. Tomorrow is spritz, coconut macaroons and rugelach. I love giving a nice assortment on a pretty plate from Goodwill that I don't care if I get back, since it was a buck.

We've had decent weather lately so walked 2.5 mile route most afternoons. Cold today so did errands including a visit to the flooring center, then hunkered down. ♥

    Pecan Sandies! Yum!!!

Today I was having coffee with my 89 year old friend, Ester. We were talking about this, that, and the other thing and when we started to talk about her upcoming 90th birthday, she made the comment, 'I have to live to be 92!!" I asked why that particular age, and here is the story she told me. When one of her older sisters married, she joined her husband's very strict religion (which I will not name because I am sure there are many very nice people belonging to it) but her sister became a rigid, unpleasant woman who always put down the rest of the family's church and continually tried to convert them to her way of thinking. Along with this, she became 'clean food nut' (as Ester put it "she ate nothing but vegetables and drank nothing but juice") and constantly lectured the family about their eating habits, warning of the dire consequences of their more hardy (German food) diet. This sister lived to the age of 91, so Ester wants to outlive her to prove the point that "you can have a long life AND have fun AND eat real food!" OMG, I laughed and laughed. Sibling rivalry to the end!

JerseyGirl: Won't be long - continue being patient. Thinking of you.

Today was a beautiful, sunny, but actually cool day in SW Florida. I was all ready to go for my 4 mile walk when my 91 year old aunt called, all upset. She has always had her 4 children (all boys) and their families over on Christmas afternoon for snacks, sandwiches, etc. she said she needed help. So, my plans quickly changed......off I went. We (I) made cut out cookies and cheese balls, then got her table all ready. Found all her serving pieces and ironed tablecloths. I did take her dog for a mile walk while the dough was chilling.

She still wants to do things, but gets tired do quickly, plus gets really nervous. So, my exercise plan changed, but I felt good to be able to help her. I am still going to make 2 more kinds of cookies and a cake in the next week for her.

Mysunshine48, very kind to help your aunt. Ruth, like the photo and story. Getting in to the christmas rush and son's 17th b'day Wednesday, so bought 8 Star Wars tickets plus taking he and friends out to dinner after, not with us present, nope, just our £ are invited, lol. Off later to practice BB #71 for a few hours in the studio at the gym, on this blustery, drizzly yet mild temp December morning

ruthbru, you are right. And, it is especially sisters that try to one up each other. My mother is a spring chicken at 85, and she and her 84 year old sister were still fighting until March 2015 when my brother and I put an end to it. When my aunt Clare, Anne's sister, thought she had gotten away with a secret plan this past year when my mother was being hospitalized to put Anne where she would die alone and neglected, Clare called my brother Randy and said she was coming over to my house with a policeman to clean out my mother's bedroom and take away Anne's clothes, jewelry, and guitar! My mother Anne is brilliant, but her sister is stupid for giving us advance warning. The sister, who is banned from my house, never made it to the front steps. The County Sheriff told my brother to find his power of attorney papers FAST. After we did locate the papers, Randy and I knew something was bad wrong. We called the hospital where my mother was being treated. We had to go to court to bring Anne home due to a secret plan to send my mother away. Our Anne is mostly sweet though she can be stubborn. Motive? Clare has bequeathed her land holdings to her daughter and given her daughter, my cousin, every penny she had so my cousin could stay married to a no good husband who lost every job he ever had while Clare shelled out the money to pay my cousin to raise five children. Aunt Clare had stupidity told my brother about her plans to grab control of my mother's bank account. Today, Clare and my mother's brother Sean who we know gained from this plan and thus kept it secret from me and my brother, are both banned from house. We gave my mother a private, unlisted phone line. She can freely call 911 or anyone she wants or needs to call. Clare and Sean though cannot reach her on this line. I hope my brother Randy and I get along okay when we are old and grey. Sean and Clare tried to pit Randy and me against each other, but it didn't work. We love Anne too much.

This is a sweet XMAS for me despite my struggles over the bc treatment. We have Anne at home with us this XMAS. Her metastatic breast cancer had gone undetected during her hospitalization this year. When we discovered the breast cancer had metastasized and took her to the oncologist, he said she had four months to live without treatment. That was last May.

LilacBlue, I laugh every time I look at the Darth Vader photo. It is priceless. It nearly restores me to sanity in making me laugh. And, how interesting is the photo juxtaposed against the quotation from Diane Arbus.

I adore all of these stories, and you women! You are such a blessing! Today my Fitbit Zip started acting weird, this is the second one to do this. The first the company replaced. I doubt they'll do anything about this one... here's hoping Santa takes the hint that I'd like a new one in the form of the Fitbit One.. got in 8500 steps today though... so I didn't think that was too bad for 3 weeks post BMX... feels so good to move!

    Hello everyone!

Today I walked 7 miles, most of which was done on the beach. My family and I stayed at the beach for the weekend. We had such a great time, as the weather was great for outdoor activities. My son and daughter swam at the pool and beach. We looked for crabs at night and fished during the day. It was a terrific start for our winter break. This afternoon I got to finish up some of my Christmas shopping.

JerseyGirl2- Sorry you have had such bad luck with your Fitbit. They are great motivators for sure!

hi all, wasn't idle but didn't walk today except grocery store and many steps in my kitchen. Should've worn my pedometer. Spent most of the day on my feet tending to batches of cookies. Three kinds down, two to go. Also did four loads of laundry, fixed supper (mac & cheese with stewed tomatoes), snuck in a bit of BCO time, and it's nearly 9 pm. Have a good week ahead, everyone!

Good evening friends. Tonight was the annual yoga winter solstice gathering. A gentle 75 minute yoga practice and vegetarian potluck after. One of my favorite rituals this time of the year.

The photo is the lovely winter solstice alter from tonight.
