Chemo after 18-20 weeks

Has anyone had to wait this long for chemo? It was my understanding that it's less effective after 12 weeks had passed.ni had a mid range oncotype score and don't know if the effectiveness is the same. Chemo will only reduce my recurrence by 3-5%. Maybe less now?

Toni, there have been a couple of recent studies about this question, and the answer seems to have a lot to do with subtypes. Here are a couple of links that might interest you:

My medical team pressed the importance of commencing chemo within 6 weeks of surgery. My mastectomy was October the 9th and I started chemo on November the 10th. (I'm Australian)

Thanks ladies. My diagnoses info doesn't show below for some reason but I had IDC Stage 1 Grade 1 @ 2.2cm and it was a tubular carcinoma. 0 nodes involed and ER+/PR+ HER2- Oncotype score 22.

From what I read it may not matter but it's not clear if they really know.

Toni, your oncotype score seems a bit surprising (high) in view of the Stage 1, Grade 1, tubular info. What does your onc suggest?

    Hi Deanna,

Thanks for the feedback. They're suggesting chemo. 4xTC

They were surprised too and hadn't sent the sample away until 10 weeks after surgery at my MO appt where they were giving me my Tamoxifen prescription. They asked family history again and decided from that to send tissue. This week is now 15 and I won't get into chemo til after Xmas now. Somewhat concerned with the timing and efficiency but nothing I can do to speed things up.

    Toni
