Fibroadenoma Causing Shrinking Breast
Hi,
I went on the birth control pill when I was 19, and several months into taking the pill, I started to notice that my C-cup breasts had become uneven. They had always been even and are even for the women in my family. I figured it was just a temporary symptom of the birth control, so I didn't worry.
I went off birth control two years later, around which time I realized there was a lump in my right breast (the smaller breast). A biopsy 6 months ago showed this lump to be a fibroadenoma. The fibroadenoma is embedded in the breast tissue such that there is a dense circle of tissue surrounding the fibroadenoma, causing the shape of my right breast is a little off (most visible when I lean over - the breast isn't as round) and IMO has caused the breast to shrink. My breasts are probably about a cup size different.
My doctor says removing the fibroadenoma could cause the tissue to get back to normal, as it appears the fibroadenoma currently is putting pressure on the tissue. She says it's up to me if I want to get the fibroadenoma removed - she could go either way.
I haven't discussed the breast size issue thoroughly with her, however. I'm not sure if the tissue in the right breast would grow again or not - she just thinks the shape might get better if I remove the fibroadenoma.
I am 25 years old. Originally, I did not want to get the fibroadenoma removed because I didn't want to deal with the scar (which would be around my areola, according to the doctor), but now for vanity's sake I am wondering if I should just get the operation in hopes that my breasts will even out. As weird as it sounds, I think my right breast has continued to shrink over the years, particularly after I went on the pill a second time.
So, my main questions are:
(1) How bad is the scarring from this operation? The doctor assures me the scar would be barely visible as she would be able to operate right around the areola. I feel as though a scar on the areola would be very visible, however. Anyone have experience with this?
(2) Has anyone experienced their breast shrinking as the result of a fibroadenoma that is "embedded"? Any idea if removing the fibroadenoma would cause the breast to get back on track?
Thank you so much for reading my long post!
Edit: I forgot to mention there are some calcifications in the fibroadenoma. I don't know what this means, but my doctor pointed it out.

Hell Alexandra,
I have two fibroadenomas in my left breast that was found approx. a year ago. I have also noticed in the last month that same breast is getting smaller. I do not know if the fibroadenomas are causing it, but I am experiencing it as well. My benign tumors are small, at least they were. One was 1.5 cm and the other was 1.8 I believe. I've also noticed a hard line on the outside of my breast that goes vertically toward my arm pit which is new. Maybe a third fibroadenoma now? I'm not sure, but am interested if someone with more experience has heard of breast shrinkage from this.

I don't know about the shrinking, but I just had a 4cm fibro removed and if you find the right surgeon they are very good about hiding the scar. My mass was at about 9o'clock and my BS made the incision about an inch and a half underneath it and pulled it out tht way so the scar wont be visible in a bra or bathing suit.

Thanks for your responses!
I realize the scar won't be visible in a bra or bathing suit...but what about naked? Will the scar be visible around my areola? The doctor makes it seem as though it won't be.
I'm most likely getting it taken out in a couple weeks. Surgery is scheduled. Still trying to find out more details about how visible this scar might be.
