Herceptin after chemo - only for local recurrence?

I just finished my last round of TCHP this week (woop!) and I have a question that I probably should know the answer to. I'll be on Herceptin until August. This part of the treatment - will it prevent distant recurrence or is this to only prevent local recurrence? I believe I heard tamoxifin is only for local recurrance. I will probably not be cancer free at surgery based on my MRI which shows a much larger mass than ultrasound did - frustrating - so I am still envisioning those little stray cells floating around my body even though I'm node negative.

Susan H- Herceptin and tamoxifen are both for distant recurrence. Radiation is for local.
