My First visit to my Oncologist after breast cancer treatment
I am going tomorrow for my first visit to my medical oncologist. My radiation therapy is done. It is almost a week. I am having episodic weakness and fatigue with mild back ache. I was diagnosed in Feb 2015 BC IDC stage three A but I know the tumor was there even before.
I have never had a pet scan though I had bone scan and ct chest abdomen and pelvis. Please advise whether I should demand a pet scan from MO.She always seem so reluctant to order that. It will be for my peace of mind too. Did anybody experience fatigue and weakness after the treatment was over. I am otherwise active and do a treadmill 3-4 times a day but not from the last week. Any suggestions will be appreciated

ash123, I would definately ask for a PET scan. It's you who has to deal with the consequences and for your peace of mind! Best wishes

Fatigue and weakness after treatment is absolutely normal. It is not a sign of metasteses. I also had a bone scan and ctt prior to treatment rather than a PET scan. My oncologist explained that PET scan is more appropriate for rapidly dividing cells and though my tumor was huge, it was slow growing. Fear of mets is the name of the game when you are you are stage 3. Talk to your oncologist. I suspect he/she will reassure you.

Took me about a year to feel better after tx. Besides DEXA, no further scans. Very normal.

It's totally normal to feel fatigue after ending treatment. I've had three PET scans, and it's no guarantee that they will bring you peace of mind. Periodically, PET scans produce false positives...which lead to more scans. On all three of my PET scans, "something" lit up on my hip. However, it didn't show up on a CT scan or an MRI, so MO thinks it was a false positive.

Thank you so much Elizabeth59, Spookiesmom, and ElaineThere. On today's visit blood was drawn for tumor markers, CT scan and bone scan, MRI brain was recommended and of course reassurance offered.
This forum is awesome.I feel grateful I have you for guidance and reassurance.

It sounds like you were experiencing a new onset of fatigue, and that that is what you are worried about? I would give you a pet scan if I was your onc, simply for your Peace of mind. Sounds like they are doing some good testing on you. What grade was your tumor?

I feel tired after every two or three days and then one day I feel better rather normal. My oncologist told me I had a mixed kind of grade three and grade 2. The path report says Grade three.

Good news my TM ct chest abdomen and pelvis, MRI brain and bone scan came back fine. I have developed mild hyperthyroidism for that I am going to an endo person. Did anybody have this experience to develop hyperthyroid after cancer treatment? Thanks
