Well i got suckered in.. signed up with a Charity to do the star wars half (light side) in Disneyland which means Ill be signing up for the star wars half (darkside) in DisneyWorld to get my kessel run challenge medal
Jan 17th Star Wars Half ( lightside )
April 17th Star Wars Half ( darkside )
-
Hey Panthra!
I am also signed up to do the Star Wars Darkside, but the 5k not the Half. Perhaps we can cheer each other on!
-
Scrunchthecat : woot woot lets do this.. and just so ya know the half is still avail
-
lol - panthra! The half is going to be too much for me, I fear. I probably should have signed up for the 10k. I am probably going to drive up from Miami, and I may stay at the resort. If you are solo travelling as well, perhaps we split the resort stay. I will probably wait until January to make reservations.
-
Scrunchthecat- The half is all about the mouse magic
"ohana" and " just keep swimming" with a great playlist.. anything is possible
my friends use an app called Rock My Run and you pick the playlist based on the beat per min that you want to run or walk. sort of an awesome idea
I think we are planning on staying at saratoga springs and Im not sure yet if we would be there early enough for the 5k. we might just be flying in on friday. our dates arent set yet so who knows
-
10K done. 1:07:10 Which I'm totally happy with. Faster than any training run. The first two miles up the bridge and getting out of the crowd of the beginning were slow-ish but then I clocked miles around 10:30 for the rest. Which for me is fast. I'm happy.
Totally exhausted though. As I have been for the past few days. Radiation is catching up with me I think.

Good looking shirt for the Infinity Gauntlet Challenge, Panthrah! Better than that boring shirt for the Avengers Half last year. Good luck Saturday!
Also happy carb-loading to HockeyCat for RRHM-LV!
-
Thanks Goldlining! Never run a night race before. I'm getting excited to run on the Strip.
Good luck tomorrow, Panthrah! My hockey friend is running Avengers too. She is actually doing both, flying out to Vegas after Avengers to run RNR. She is crazy!
Well done Outrunning!

hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't been updating the tread as regularly as before. I will update it, however it might be a few weeks before I'm feeling well enough to do it. I have been dealing with the growth of a humanistic paricite in my uterus which has left me really tired and nauseous. In other words, I'm 7 weeks pregnant
This kid is really sucking all of the energy out of me, I manage to get my work day done but I get home and once the normal day to day around the house and family stuff is done, I just crash. I'm pretty much on the same bed time schedule as my 4 year old.
That being said, I haven't done much running lately but I'm trying to get out for walks at lunch time and I'm hoping to get some small amounts of running in over time. Obviously no races on my calendar for a while!
-
Congrats, OnceARunner!
I did a double-take at the "humanisitic parasite," and then read the rest. Hope you and your traveller are doing well.
-
Oncearunner: ZOMG! Congrats!!!!!! I am so happy for you
:):)
Goldlining: I survived the Gauntlet challenge
was perfect running weather! thanks for thinking of me
Hockeycat: Tell your friend if she can do that maybe she shld try for Dopey
and thanks for thinking of me
-
Love the Gauntlet medal. Awesome. Not a real Avengers fan myself, but am a fan of nice medals!
Oncearunner, awesome news - congratulations! Hopefully you will reach an equilibrium or truce with the "parasite"
soon and turn a corner where you can run a little more, at least what you mind and your legs want.
-
Congratulations, Oncearunner! So happy for you!
Panthrah, Congrats on completing the Gauntlet challenge. Nice medals! My friend actually did Dopey this year. She did Gauntlet challenge, so ran 10k on Saturday, Avenger on Sunday, hopped on the plane to Vegas then ran RNR.
The weather in Vegas was brutal.... Rain, high winds, and cold. But still an awesome fun experience. I saw many Elvis, a couple with KISS make up, Run Thru Wedding Ceremony at 3-mile mark. Spectators on the Strips were awesome! Despite of the weather, there were lots of people along the course cheering and high-fiving. They kept us going and we were on a good pace until 9 miles or so, then wind gusts got much worse. I'm glad I ran with my running partner (who ran Tinker Bell with me). We were freezing cold, I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere with that headwind. But, we did it! This is new addition to my medal hanger.
-
*woot woot* Nice Bling!!
-
To all my fellow runners- Keep on moving!
NatsFan-Glad you are back. Congratulations on your races.
cassylou- I hope things are going well for you. When I was doing chemo I would get up do 1 mile. If I did that I felt accomplished.
Suzanne50 and Rseman-Wow marathon! Way to go!
panthrah- I'm impressed. I can't roller skate to save my life. You are doing some awesome races.
Oncearunneralwaysarunner Congratulations! I hope you get feeling better, but rest up while you can.
HockeyCat--Would you do the Vegas one again? It sounds like a fun party except for the weather.
I haven't been on here and I slack off my training for 1 month and half before my 2nd Half Marathon. The Williams Route 66 Half Marathon was on my radar from 2013. I had to pull from it that year due to Felix(Cancer) and I vowed to do it. 2015 was the year of running or something like that. My first half marathon in Moab Utah, I cried because it was gorgeous and magical to be doing it with someone I admire and look up too. I cried because it was my first one. I was beating my PR goals.
This half-marathon was another challenge for me, because it was a reminder of what I had to give up to survive. Sacrifices made and goals put on hold. You can always go back to the goals. I started training for it back in July and I was in full training for it until the month of October, when travel, sickness, and family life got in the way. October is hard month for me anyway, because I lost my Dad during October. I found it easier to make excuses then to put on my shoes and hit pavement. What happens when you fail in training, you just have to make adjustments on your time/effort. The only goal I had for Route 66 was to finish, because to me this race wasn't about time it was about the meaning of what I gave up.
@% HILLS." Then you notice those around you, walking, encouraging others, and some of them carrying a fellow runner so she can finish. Two strangers from two different states, helping someone they don't know and you realize THIS is why you run. Everyone has one goal to finish and Everyone supports you. Gabriel (DH) stayed with me the whole way and held my hand and dragged up the hills. I suggested he help with women carry the runner and his reply, "I'm am helping carry a runner." That is when I realized I wouldn't have made it without him; tears appeared because I realized He is my warrior. Sometimes we don't realize when we need that extra support.
As we turn into the last 0.1 miles and saw the finish line, I wanted to run it in, but I realized my body could not and Gabriel told me he would do what I wanted. I couldn't even trot it in. We crossed the finish line hold hands in 4:17.15 hours. The challenge was meet and it was meet with each other's strength. For those of you who feel you are alone in this world, remember there are those around you who will help you cross the finish line. Thank you to all who have supported my crazy adventures. I hope that one day you accomplish an old goal. Walk on!
P.S. I now have another stress fracture on the same left foot. I got one after the first half marathon. I am wondering if it is from cancer treatments. Any one getting these?
-
Thank you Fairy Dog Mother for the moving report! I felt the whole thing - sacrifice, effort, surmounting, and surviving.
I've had a stress fracture in the toe area on one foot, near the base of the middle toe. Never did account for its appearance. Six weeks in the aircast boot helped. I am skittish about running shoes with too much flex in the toe area. I have a lot of looseness, not to say flexibility, in my joints (always have) and the excess range of motion can cause stress on the bones.
I'm still trying to kick the bronchitis. In a very chronic phase, and not much coughing but when I cough, I really cough. It doesn't seem prudent to hit the road running and aggravate the airways. I may need to do a brisk walk, though.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans here. I'm making a turkey by special request from my daughter, who thinks since we're here, we should do that. I left all my specialty cookware at home so had to run out and buy a bunch of equipment today. But I'll need that brisk walk to fight off the turkey coma, won't I?
-
Happy Thanksgiving! What a difference a year makes - last Thanksgiving, I just finished my 4th and last chemo. I was very anti-social, felt and looked terrible... I didn't want to see anyone, so my husband and I rented a cabin in the mountain and spent the whole thanksgiving weekend there. One year later, I feel great, ran two half marathons, and back on the ice playing hockey! I'm thankful for my supportive friends and family, who gave me time to recover on my pace. We spent our thanksgiving with immediate and extended family.
FairyDogMother - I would do Vegas again. It was unfortunate we had that terrible weather, but the atmosphere and crowds were unforgettable!
Goldlining, hope you'll feel better soon. I got sick after Vegas half, but finally recovered and was able to do 3-milers before thanksgiving dinner.
I'm running 5k with my best friend (also a survivor) and her daughter (my goddaughter) next weekend!
-
One more race report before the end of the year. I ran Christmas Run 5k last Saturday. I love this race because it's very festive, and I have many fond memories... Last year, this race was one month after my final chemo. I ran/walked with my friends with their kid in a stroller. I was very emotional when I was able to finish this 5k. This year, I ran with my 14-years-old goddaughter. Her mom (my best friend) was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and went through surgery and radiation. It was a rough year for them... I introduced her to running 5 years ago and she ran her first 5k (this Christmas Run) with me. She won 1st place in her division and got her first medal. Now she is in cross country team in her school. We had a great run together.
I wish you all a happy holiday. Keep running!
-
Hockey - great story!
You guys will laugh at this one. DH and I love running a 5K in DC called the Jingle All the Way. We've been talking about it for weeks since it's a nice flat course around DC, and it's so much fun to see all the costumes people wear.
The race was this past Sunday. Saturday evening, we're starting to get things ready so we could leave bright and early. I was looking for the confirming email they always send with race day info, like where you can pick up your packet, etc. I couldn't find the email, so I asked DH to check his email to see if it came to that address. He didn't have it either, but said, "I wouldn't have it because you were the one who registered us for it. You did register us, didn't you?" Me: "No, I thought YOU had registered us for it!" Of course neither one of us had registered for it, and they have no race day registration. So we were SOL. Can I blame chemobrain even after 8 years? Because of course it couldn't be old age!
So instead of running it, we just went on one of the park trails for a 4 mile run. Not as exciting, but still a good run.
-
Signed up for my first official Half! Running the Jeff Galloway 13.1 in Atlanta this Sunday...woohoo!!!
-
NatsFan, LOL!
Good luck on your first half, Geewhiz.
-
Is anyone else concerned about this El Nino affected races? or is it just this California girl? They say Jan-March will be extra rainy "like nothing we've seen before". Should I be getting water proof gear now?
-
For 2016 are we moving to another thread?
-
Merry Christmas and happy holiday running to all! Especially those enjoying unseasonably nice temps!
-
Merry XMas everyone! Goldlining - I'm in South Florida. It has been so hot that I have been walking and doing my running indoors. Next up: Miami Marathon Tropical 5k on January 23!
-
Hello All- It has been so hectic here and I haven't posted in awhile but I am hoping this post will help me get into the running again since I haven't had a good one since NYC Marathon!
The NYC Marathon was AMAZING. It was kind of hot for me but I gave it my all. The first 13.1 was perfect although I realized quick that any time goal I had was out the window. I came to terms with that very early, like in the first 30 second of running!! But I was very ok with that.
It was weird because when I got to the 59th street bridge I had no idea what borough I was leaving or entering. I had no idea I was even on the 59th street bridge until I came around the curve and heard the roar of 1st Ave. That was around mile 15. My husband and best friend saw me at mile 16 and that was so amazing.
At mile 17 I passed Memorial Sloan Kettering which I fundraised for and they have the kids from the hospital outside and it is just so inspiring!!
And then the pain set in. It started at mile 18 and built up at 19 and 20. I started drinking two waters per station and somehow missed a water station. At 22 I thought I might die and my only goal was to not be scraped off the pavement by medical.
Well I actually had two goals. The second was keep running and don't walk. And I did.
My husband and best friend had GrandStand seats and cheered me over the finish. It was surreal.
However, the accomplishment didn't really set in until a friend of mine who is a marathon runner gave me the stats.
For 2015 the average time for a female first time NYC marathoner was just shy of 5 hours. I completed my first NYC marathon in 4:35 WHILE on chemotherapy!!!!
I was super happy about that. I don't plan on running NYC in 2016 but just maybe I'll lottery into Chicago!!
I hope you all have a wonderful New Year with lots of miles to run!
Renee
-
that is OUTSTANDING! Congradulations !!
-
Rseman I am SO PROUD of you!!!!
You rock, big time! 4:35?!?!?!?! Wow!
-
Oh, girls, I haven't been posting but I have been running a lot and reading all your posts. And I just had to comment when I saw Rseman's latest. You are truly a ROCK STAR, kid! You should have that runner's high going on for quite awhile after that feat!
Happy, healthy running to all, well into the New Year!
Luv,
Lulu
-
OMG 4:35 is awesome!!! Woohoooo!!!!!!
Finished my first half a few weeks ago...I loved it, wow!!!
Just had recon surgery and am frustratingly sidelined for a few weeks. Such a bummer. I am going to lose my base again : /
