Starting Chemo March 2015

I know that higher testosterone levels in conditions like PCOS can lead to higher cholesterol and LDL levels, but I don't know if Tamoxifen and Arimidex affect testosterone levels overall

Amy, Is the neuropathy all the time, or just occasional? I developed carpal tunnel (and cubital tunnel on one side) a few months after chemo the first time (when I did TC).
Bekah, Sounds like good news on the bloodwork. I have not had cholesterol checked in 3 years. I probably should do that.............
-
Amy, one of my residuals from neuropathy is a slight feeling on the tips of my fingers like I touched them for an instant on a hot griddle, as best I can explain it. It has mostly gone away, but came back a month ago, and now it is starting to subside again. Hugs, and sorry you are going through round two with neuropathy symptoms.
At last doctor appointment, after a clean mammogram, breast Doctor pushed on the MRI (get it done now type of thing), and MO pushed on a follow up PET scan. I hear so many people say they can't get scans, and I seem to get approval from insurance for everything, not sure that's a good thing. Just recently, a new recommendation came out against scans. I told both doctors I'm not thinking about doing any scans right now, I will think about it in January because I want to enjoy the holidays in ignorant bliss. And I feel great, other than having a cold. So happy for everybody who has had great tests results

I noticed it the other day but didn't really register it as being neuropathy. Today, though, I have numbness and pain in my pointer finger on my right hand and tingling in all the rest, just like during chemo. I did a little research online and it isn't uncommon for this to happen so I guess I'll just hope these little episodes are few and far between. I'll also put a call in to my MO tomorrow. I started yoga but it hasn't been tough on my wrists so I don't think it is carpal tunnel. Is chemo a driving factor in carpal tunnel?
-
I feel like I only post when sick but am sooooo sick of this. Started w an other UTI yesterday. Saw urologist recently and cystoscope looked good. She wanted to try a different prophylactic antibiotic but I said no because this one can cause pneumonitis or lung inflammation. Not interested after all the blood clots in lungs. But then wham, I get hit w another one. So sick of bladder spasms....so grateful for pyridium!

Awesome, Eileen!
-
Mo, The UTIs must be frustrating. I hope you kick it soon.
Amy, The chemo does not cause carpal tunnel per se, but it can cause joint inflammation, so if you are already predisposed to it, it may make it more likely...or so I was told.
Theresa, the people from my 2013 group who get scanned the most often tend to be in California and Florida. I sometimes think doctors there are more aggressive with it.
-
Mo, I have chronic UTI symptoms but no UTI. My MO tells me it is a side effect of menopause because estrogen also helps with elasticity of the urinary tract and therefore the lack of estrogen causes spasms that feel like a UTI. Just another wonderful hormonal (lack of hormones) SE..
-
I got one and they told me the same thing.
-
I had a couple of UTI during and after chemo, then they dissipated and I haven't had one since. I agree that the lack of estrogen can cause them due to lack of moisture. It is important to get a culture to know which antibiotic will be effective.
Surgery yesterday went fine and I do indeed have a new TE - yay! The only issue was a delay with the surgery ahead of mine, so I spent 5 hours in pre-op. The good news is that this is a new beautiful hospital and they have TV and movies in each pre-op room. The staff at this hospital is great, friendly and caring - and responsive to my assertive and particularly involved style. I have a lot of allergies and some complicated needs regarding anesthesia and irrigant used in the OR and the tape used in the dressing. They even have to line the bed with chucks because I'm allergic to the detergent they use on the linens. They handled all that with ease
-
SpecialK- glad things went well and they treated you as the gem you are. You sound very perky! So glad you checked in.
So sorry to hear about the UTIs, and related syndromes. I know the are both painful and frustrating, sending hugs,
-
K: So happy all went well. Do you still get nervous waiting for surgery?
-
Thanks guys!
trvler - I actually don't get nervous anymore, lol! My only concern about yesterday was if she couldn't get the expander in or the skin tore open again in the process. I had 8 major surgeries prior to breast cancer diagnosis, including a very scary one at Moffitt Cancer Center for removal of a golf ball sized tumor in my right calf - they thought it was a sarcoma with a very dire prognosis, or if I was lucky enough for the mass to be benign, the possibility that the nerves were tangled in it meant I would lose the function of my right leg. There was no preliminary biopsy so I was wheeled into surgery not knowing what they would find. Benign tumor, no nerve entanglement - was very lucky. Yesterday's surgery was the 14th breast cancer related surgery - so now it is pretty much like Groundhog Day.
-
Haha. I figured it might be something like that.
-
Hahaha...Groundhog Day! That's kinda how I felt after my third breast surgery (but 14th total other surgery) this year.
Glad to hear it was successful
-
Cancer sucks. Menopause sucks.....
Bekah - I don't know about tamoxifin, but I know that AI's cause elevations in cholesterol. My MO told me to make my primary Dr. aware of it.
Special K - Hope this time you will have a beautiful breast!
-
feeling old. Friends invited over for dinner around 7. That seems so late....
-
sueh - If it is breast of any kind it will be beautiful to me. Definitely not aiming for perfection, too much has happened for things to turn out super well in the looks department - this side has been cut into 13 times, so it is a bit of a mess, but the surgeon was happier than I thought she would be. I just need to be done with this so I can get on with things!
-
this will make you all smile I hope.
