Just face is horribly dry after "tx" 2 yrs ago, anyone else?

This is so weird, but the skin on my face has some resemblance to sand paper now. The rest of my skin is not too bad, just my face. It's like every oil gland on my face has died, or completely stopped producing oil. I could understand it if it was chemopause, or my hypothyroidism if it was all the skin on my body, but no it is just my face that is affected. What gives? Were they frying my face with rads when they were doing my chest? Was it OOPs, sorry we slipped up and got your face too when we were doing your neck when we were nailing your internal mammary nodes? Was their machine just poorly calibrated that day and they just can't admit they screwed up? Anyone else have this occur?

hi, just wanted to let you know, I also keep having side effects, my face peeled again, a few weeks ago....no idea what triggered that. It has improved ...and not sure what I am doing or not doing for the improvement.

It is the the treatment that keeps giving, my nails still split and have not been the same since.

Sorry you are going through this still, hope it starts to improve for you. Have you talked to your doctor at all ?

I would try and talk to your oncologist or maybe even a skin specialist.

    Wishing you all the best

Thanks, I might see a Dermatologist, doubtful onco could be any help. It is ok if I moisturize like mad, just never feels good/right. One more thing they wrecked.

Just wish I felt safer after all this torture, but I never do.

    hi macb04,

A friend of mine recommends coconut oil ( organic) , and I have started using some of the moisturizers left over from radiation treatment....my hands are also a mess. I will keep you posted if it helps.

Let's hope in a few years, we have a few less symptoms from all the treatments.

    ((Hugs))

MacB, I saw one of your other posts somewhere, where you mentioned being on zafirlukast in connection with your recon process. Have you asked your doctor if the dry skin could be a side effect of that drug?

I don't remember if you had chemo, but both my mom and I had very dry skin on our faces for about 6 months after chemo. It eventually went back to normal.

Hi Momine, yes had chemo, 2.5 yrs ago. I am starting to think it is some menopausal lack of esrtogen skin connection. Read that the skin of the face has more estogen receptors than other skin in your body. If that is true, than lack of estrogen could explain my super dry skin on my face, but not elsewhere on my body. Makes as much sense as anything else

oh, was off the Zafirlucast for last couple of weeks because of my nipple reconstruction surgery last week. Had the dry skin before that and not improved since off that either. I really bet it is something to do with low estrogen's effect on the skin.

Hi Macb. I can relate. After years of chemo and hormonal treatments, the skin on my face reminded me of alligator. I think you're right about lack of estrogen. After I had an oopherectomy, I looked like a decrepit old hag. Just posting to say I found great improvement using a sugar scrub and African black soap to wash off the scrub. There are several recipes on the web for homemade sugar scrubs, but sweet almond oil and raw sugar is my fave. Sometimes, if I have some in the house, I add some mushed up pomegranite seeds to the mix to help deal with the wrinkles. As an added bonus, it also seems just abrasive enough to wear off the disgusting little beard hairs that also appeared after the ooph. Not bad enough treatments make us sick, they gotta make us ugly too.

ETA: if you're going to try this, I should mention using an oil that's low on the comodogenic scale. I used coconut oil once and I ended up with a bunch of whiteheads. Lived and learned. Also, there are a lot of black soaps out there. I use one that contains a lot of oil.

Hi, I am using Emu oil and Argan oil. Seems to help along with an exfoliation kit I bought. You are right, they seem to wreck everything, I just want to have important things as close4o normal as possible.

So lego you don't need a moisturizer afterwards? How often do you scrub? Must look up black soap.

Yes my face is much drier after ooph. So is my scalp. Hard to imagine.

It never even occurred to me that skin problems could be related to lack of estrogen. Between ooph and AIs, as I understand it I have no estrogen left in my body. AND many, many skin issues (scalp, face, arms, under my feet, lower back... it goes on and on). At this point, I'm keeping under the feet moisturized with Burts Bees hand salve (they're still cracked and bleeding, but it helps), and putting up with the itching and flaking in other areas (corner of the eye and eyelid, anyone?)

I'm seeing a dermatologist next week because you can't use cortisone cream forever (doesn't give me much relief anyway!). I'll let you know what he says re: estrogen and skin!

Zills, I still have to moisturize, but after scrubbing, it seems to sink in. I scrubbed every day for a couple weeks at first...now about three times a week. Before, any moisturizer just kind of sat on top like an oil slick and my skin was always dry no matter how much I slapped on. Dry and greasy....didn't even know that was possible. Yuck.

After the ooph, I swear my skin took on the texture of a handbag overnight....and the wrinkles.....yikes! One day it was fine and the next I looked ten years older.

Dee, my son suffered a lot with eczema when he was little and using all that cortisone cream just didn't feel right. If you're not sensitive to smells, have you tried Shea butter on those dry areas? I find it (pure, unrefined) works the best, but I recently posted about finding some that's good quality. Everyone seems to be scamming and blatantly lying about their commercial products lately. The good stuff is really hard and smells bad :) It also has a bit of natural sunscreen (cinnamic acid) if you're concerned about wrinkles, so one less irritating, toxic thing you have to put on your face.

Where did you find it? Online? Box store? I saw black soap listed for target but mine didn't have it. It looked more like a processed bar and I was thinking it should be more rough and natural.

My three year old and I can't wait to use it. If possible, she's even drier! Poor baby.

    Thanks

Zills, so glad you asked before you bought it. If your little girl's skin is already dry, the black soap would dry it out even more, I think. I only use it to get the oil off my face after the sugar scrub. It's a pretty intense soap. Lots of people use it to deal with acne because of the fact it strips oil. I think an oatmeal soap would be better for a young kid's dry skin. If you want to use it on yourself though, I just picked it up at the local health food store. Looks like a big hunk of cow poop, actually.

Hey Ladies, my Naturopath remindedme tonight that its also good to have more essential fatty acids,

    http://www.naturalhealthyconcepts.com/complete-omega-369-NN120-p-nordic-naturals.html?gclid=Cj0KEQiA4qSzBRCq1-iLhZ6Vsc0BEiQA1qt-zldUfHknM5pYIoO8_gXcQToTcVD7LsK8mBD1aqlr9yYaAobO8P8HAQ

She said especially helpful is GLA from borage, evening primrose or black currant oil. So I am planning to get some of that and see what that does. I think you can get it in the form of a liquid or a capsule. I was actually taking it a few years ago , but stopped because I get the runs when having too much fat, had gall bladder issues.

I had hysterectomy and ooph last week. I started putting a mask made of avocado, egg whites, plain yogurt and natural honey on my face 30 minutes before taking a shower. I also put sweet almond oil at night. I am expecting to get hot flashes back soon. I have not had a hot flash in 3 months since my estrogen levels went back up again before the ooph surgery and AI was not working. I stopped AI for now until my hormone levels are tested again to show I am post menopausal. My oncologist suggested taking Tamoxifen instead of AI to protect the bones after my surgery. Does anyone take Tamoxifen after ooph?
