waiting here with my microcalcifications...
I have learned so much from all of you by going through these boards in the last 2 weeks... what a help. Thank you all for sharing your journeys.
I am 40 years old and have 6 kids age 6-18. I have always had lumpy bumpy breasts ( fibrocystic) and have been seeing a breast specialist annually for 5 years, because my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 BC with mets to the bone at age 41 ( about my age now). She lived another 10 years. I have had annual ultrasounds with visits to the Breast Surgreon and the occasional mammo. Two years ago I had a baseline MRI done.
This past May, when I went for my annual mammo at the breast specialist (last one was 2 years ago because I was pregnant the year before - unfortunately I had a MC...) my BS told me they saw microcalcifications that may or may not be a problem, or I could just have breasts that like to make calcifications and this could be normal. I was given a BIRADS 3 and told to come back in 6 months for another MRI and mammo.
2 weeks ago I went for that 6 month follow up. The MRI was clear, but after the mammo, the breast surgeon came in and said right away 'the calcifications have changed and the clusters have grown in 2 spots in my left breast' so we need to do a biopsy. I did the biopsy 4 days ago (Friday). The BS said she expected the results tomorrow or Thursday. She is concerned but said because the MRI is clear, if there is anything, it should be very early.
My question: Has anyone had an increase in their microcalcifications over 6 months like this at my age? What were your results?
Kerrie

Dear mommyto6,
Welcome to the community. We are sorry that your present circumstances with your calcifications have caused concern and brought you here but we are glad that you reached out. We hope that you will hear from others but please keep us posted on what you learn. We are sending you warm wishes and hugs for benign results. The Mods

hi mommyto6, I am not your age, but at 57, that is exactly what happened to me. I had a small cluster of microcalcs and was put on the 6 month watch and wait protocol. I went back 6 months later and it had multiplied times 3 (from 4 to 12) and a stereotactic biopsy showed DCIS, grade 2-3. Had a lumpectomy and am good so far. Hugs and hoping all is well. Benign results happen fairly often, so will keep my fingers crossed that is what happens for you! Hugs!

Good luck! I will say prayers and I am sending you hugs since I have no answers for you. -
Thanks for your kind prayers, thoughts and welcome. Waiting is hard, but I am hoping for the best.

Hi I am a newbie also,49 yr old waiting on microcalcifications that were noticed 9 years ago on my first mamo,They watched them every 6 months for a fews years and they seemed to stay ungrouped.I went last year for a mammo,i had noticed a lump a few days before but it didn't snow up on it.Report came back dense breast.I decided to go to a breast surgeon in Feb 2015 to get a second opinion and she did an ultrasound and said no problem just a lipoma.Anyway back to Nov 30 2015 I had a mammogram and when I went back to the screen to ask a question about the enlarged lymph node I found out about that they had been watching for a few years, she showed it to me and said that was normal, but then I saw a large spot of micocalcifications that were in a tight cluster and said oh no those aren't suppose to do that.I knew I would get the call back.I don't remember them being like that last year and no mention of it from the breast specialist. The radiologist states a 6cm area right breast frontal. I am scheduled for a few close up mammogram views and an ultra sound right after.I am told I cant go back to see the breast specialist until these tests are done.Which I know is what she would do anyway.I also noticed a darkening of my skin like a light bruise color on the area in question, didnt think anything of it until the mammogram came back bad.I have had pain in the armpit lymph area also. I am going for the next tests Jan 4th,dont judge but I have a 2,500 deductible and my obgyn thought I could wait a month. I am a 10 yr adenocarcinoma cervical gland survivor and after recommended hysterectomy squamous cancer cells were found forming in the uterus. I was lucky both were caught early enough,no lymph node involvement so no treatments. So the waiting and many tests is not uncommon to me,nor the diagnosis of cancer. But it sure is scary.
