    I detest insurance companies!

    Yoga this morning, subbed this afternoon (where I very impressively introduced the Distributive Factor to 6th graders ), had coffee with an old teacher friend after school & am now off to a basketball game. No Rest for the Wicked!

    Today I walked 3 miles at the walking trail. It has been beautiful weather here lately I have wanted to be outside for exercise. I spent the afternoon getting my son ready to go camping for the weekend. It was his turn to get the groceries for his Boy Scout Troop. They will have chilly nights, but the days should be perfect.

    Scottie-Insurance is always a pain. We just had enrollment at work, which the prices skyrocketed. All members will be paying double the cost monthly, but coverage is way less. Frustrating, but it's a necessary evil, I guess. I hope you get your issue resolved

    Welcome to all the new ladies. Scottie I sure hope your insurance debacle was sorted out, what a pain I hate the way companies give you the run around.

    Have been laid up with a miserable cold, still coughing but I went to Zumba tonight just did a low impact class.

    Walked for 45 minutes at the Y. I put on my Teacher Voice and scolded two sets of kids who were running wildly all over the track, cutting me off, running up behind me from both sides. I don't care if kids want to run sprints around the track, as long as they follow the rules.

    Thanks for all the prayers and good vibes sent my way. Surgery went well on Monday. I'm sorry it took my a bit to get online... I had Facebook while in hospital and was able to post to a couple of you, but couldn't get to the BSO site on my phone. I was trying my best to follow doctors orders and rest (hard for me!) while in hospital. I was up and walking around Monday night after surgery, and I took the meds they gave me in hospital as they made me do it... However, it was fine and it counteracted and got ahead of any pain twinges that may have wanted to start.

    Feeling really good. Drains are doing their thing... only minor discomfort and very little pain at the node removal site. BS called last night with path report and said clear margins, no tethering, 5/23 nodes precancerous, but more scarring in tumor and nodes than cancer. got all of it, and declared me CANCER FREE! Still have to do rads and finish Herceptin... but this is gone!

    JerseyGirl - "cancer free" - words which are music to the ears. Congrats.

    Hour and half of bowling this morning. Now waiting for the clouds to pass over to decide what to do with remainder of the day (because who wants to stay in and do housework?)

    Jersey I'm glad you got one more step done. Rads was easy compared to surgery and chemo.

    PatooI'm with you on the housework. I want to put up my tree but my living room needs cleaning first. It's sunny and warm today so I just want to go out.

    Walked the dog 15 minutes then I took him home and did 25 minutes more of walk/run. Going to the grocery store then maybe I'll clean this evening.

    I am always up for postponing the cleaning when the weather is nice out. Or even when it's not quite as nice. This, from my ride earlier this morning. The building in the distance on the left is the Chateau....as in Chateau St Michelle. Amazingly, I wasn't the only one out ther cycling. - Claire

    Hey, everybody,

    patoo invited me here. I live in the Deep South. In the fall and winter, it is ugly outside, not like the Washington, D.C. area where I lived for many years. I hibernate inside and become a couch potato until it warms up and I can garden and do yard work.

    I started a thread in the Get Me through Treatment forum about Tamoxifen and fatigue and insonia. I am waiting for a lady from church to bring me an elliptical bike so I can ramp up for vigorous exercise. I can walk where I live, but not vigorously due to arthritis in my feet.

    Yesterday, I went outside in my pajama bottoms, a knit top, a poncho, and Muk Luks. I am sure I was a sight to behold. I walked around the yard and picked up some branches and debris. I had gotten up early in the morning to help my 85 year old mother get ready for a doctor's appointment. I helped her with a sponge bath and then helped her get dressed. I was exhausted when she left for her appointment. Today, I have been on the couch again getting up to pick up in the living room. I went outside for a few minutes to give the man next door information about vocational rehabilitation services in our city.

    I became a big time couch potato in March when my mother was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She had beat invasive breast cancer when she was about 78, but she stopped going for her body scans after three years. After the diagnosis, she wouldn't let me out of her sight, so I have started to morph into a couch potato. Now, I have breast cancer, and Tamoxifen has made me depressed and increased my pain levels. I had to go on an antidepressant. Now, I am worried about big time weight gain. My MO wants me to lose 40 to 43 pounds in addition to the 34 pounds I have shed in the past few years.

    So, this is my situation. I have fibromyalgia and am disabled but ambulatory. Somehow, I have to find the silver lining in this cloud and make my life work for me.

    And, I have to separate myself from the couch too.

    Jersey, so glad that you are on this side of the operating table, that surgery went well, and that you are feeling good!!!!!!

    Welcome DecisionFreak! You have already made a great step by deciding you need a change. Now you need a specific plan. What I did was I decided how much exercise I wanted to get in a week, then I got a note book and broke time down into 15 minute increments (so if I decided that I wanted to get a total of 5 hours (or whatever) during a week, I would have a column that would reflect that amount of time& I would check them off as I did them (if I walked half an hour I could check off two of the 15 minutes). If I got to the end of the week and I hadn't gotten to my goal.....then I would have to exercise like crazy so all the boxes would get marked off! Fitbits can be good, some people (like me) love being part of a class for the companionship and accountability. Many gyms have classes for all fitness levels. Some people love to swim or do water aerobics which are not hard on the joints. Decide what things will work for you and get started. Exercise is also a great stress reducer and natural anti-depressant, plus it can help you lose weight/tone up/ be more healthy overall....which makes one feel better both physically and mentally.

    As far as weight loss, there are some really good programs online and also ones like Weight Watchers, Medifast etc. We have a Wednesday Weigh In here on BCO too.

    Oh yes, I did 45 minutes on the dreadmill this morning. Also took two uncooperative cats to the vet, which should count for something!!!!

    Jersey. . .so glad all went well. Cancer Free is a blessing. DecisionFreak. . .just start slow. After BMx I was very weak because I have a degenerated L4/L5 disk which I'm also fighting. I started very slow on the treadmill and worked up from there. Now I walk/hike an average of 5 miles a day.

    All thanks for the support on the insurance issue. I won't know until Monday morning if the lumbar epi is going forward. It better, just praying that it will.

    My exercise today was Christmas shopping. We were supposed to hike after but it got too late and a nap sounded better. Back to the gym tomorrow.

    Eating Cheetos as I read this thread and feeling guilty......maybe not! LOL I did get over 11,000 steps in today, so that makes it OK, right?

    Hello all, according to fitbit I had 60 active minutes tonight, mainly doing a Candlelight house tour. I've been off my game and this was a good way to get back in some good walking. Now I just have to march in place for 200 steps to get to my 10,000 goal!

    Yea, DecisionFreak, you will enjoy your time over here. Guess what, the walking around the yard picking up sticks and helping your mom all count as exercise because you are moving and using muscles that won't get used sitting on the couch. So that means you have already started. Great work!

    Oh, and I cleaned the bathroom tonight. Ugh. It needed it. I had to get down on my hands and knees to clean the outside of the toilet bowl. And, I forgot that I had to clean the outside of the front door today with a rag and Clorox because there were little spots of mold on the door. Then, I cleaned the inside of the door with vinegar and water. And, I cleaned some moldy stuff out of the air conditioning system, then went outside and used the hose to clean the outdoor pipe that carries excess water away from air conditioning system. Do all those things count?

    Woohooooo Jersey wonderful news, so glad for you. Welcome DecisionFreak yes absolutely it all counts, it's movement and that's what we have to do, have you ever tried acupuncture? Since I've been sick I haven't put my Fitbit on, then I am going to an event tomorrow in Los Angeles so I went by my office today to get the charger for it, I know I put in my car but I'll be darned if I can find it now ughhhh I hope there's enough battery for tomorrow. Mysunshine aren't Cheetos filled with air, air has zero calories....win!!!

    Today did Body Combat, still coughing but feeling almost back to normal.

    ruthbru : I agree with you about the doctors not giving good information. I had just a couple lymph nodes removed, BMX and tissue expanders and my surgeon that did the mastectomy told me "Oh you don't really hear of lymphedema anymore" when i asked her how long i should rest in order to avoid it.Thank goodness i knew better and talked to my PS about who is great about referring to a PT who specializes in this! So you can't always listen to the docs unfortunately. Be your own advocate and look into things! Hope everyone is doing well.

    Ok DecisionFreak, stop showing off!!!! Yes, that all counts for exercise but get some of the boring exercise in as well, walking, half-marathons, triathalons, etc. (Sorry, did anyone tell you they removed all my serious bones with the lumpectomy? I asked them to leave one but they declined.)

    7-1/4 mile bike ride after church today. Was going to the pool but my recliner claimed my body instead.

    I'm listening to the advise from you wonderful ladies on the boards and easing up on the upper body workouts.  Lower body, that's a different story.  Kidding.  Today I ran my first 5k.  The goal was to get under 10 min miles for pacing.  I paced at 9:44 with inclines.   I'm proud of my time and will get a little more running in before my exchange surgery in January. 

    I was able to get a free meal from the food trucks, and well that burrito probably cancelled out all the calories I burned while running.

    Unbreakable, that is great timing. Congrats. Wish I could motivate myself to try running again. Did it before but didn't get very far. May give C25k another shot. We'll see.

    Once again, ladies you are inspiring me. Dh and I cleaned out all of the accumulated junk and papers in the kitchen and downstairs, so I'm counting that as one hour of serious exercise. My housekeeper will be proud of me if I can keep it that way. Took a nap and am at the gym trying to get in as many steps as my lower body will allow as well as some light weights.

    Tomorrow morning I will pace around for a couple of hours while ortho tries to force insurer to release approval for my lumbar epi (prayers please). I know one sure way to make that happen - eating breakfast and downing my diet coke - both of which are verboten before the procedure.

    Patoo. . .where do I go to get my serious bones removed? I think they took all the fun ones and left me with nothing but sarcasm.

    Okay, going to make a fruit smoothie and then get on the treadmill and see if I can run in 10 sec spurts.

    Decision Freak, the only way I get any cleaning done is to count it as exercise. And unbreakable, those are great times.

    My hubby and I did a run/walk for 35 minutes today. I also went up and down the stairs several hundred times doing laundry. OK I exaggerate, it just felt like several hundred.

    Very good Unbreakable! I was so scared to do upper body stuff that I DID concentrate on the lower and lost a pant size!! (I hated to do lower body before....so that was definitely a silver lining).

    Scottie, good luck with your creepy insurance company!

    A little treadmill, a little abs, and then forced myself to clean the house (which was on my list for LAST Monday). I am now taking a short break from Christmas Card Writing.

    Did 45 minutes of walking at the Y today. Yesterday I didn't make it there before they closed, so I asked around the mall, which is about a mile. It's harder to have a decent pace there, because its so busy this time of year. Plus there's always something that catches your eye and gets you distracted. I've got to stop and look at the Snoopy stuff at build a bear, of course.
