    Hi, Binney4 and Carol57 -

I actually did read the article that you linked to me. My insurance company will probably want prior authorization for the gauntlet, much like the compression garment. They probably would want to know that I have hand lymphedema in order to approve it. Of course, we are going to be having a heat and humid spell all next week.

    Hi All -

I haven't been on here for a while. Most things have been good. I finished my STARR program in mid-September. I use my compression garment as needed. However, now I wonder if I really need a gauntlet to help with the hand lymphedema. It isn't severe, It is just enough that I can feel the extra thickness in my hand. It also swells up at night, and can be sore in the morning.

From what I understand, though, the gauntlet is a day time thing. What about the night-time, though? Is there any type of wrapping that would help? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Curious, what was Starr trial?

Ok ....on hand swell. I am stage one in hand and stage two arm. I wear a glove daily. I barely have hand swelling and hardly can see it. On a hot day it does feel thicker or if I work in the garden or travelling in the mountains for long time sitting in a car or drink alcohol. I could probably get away wearing a gauntlet daily and sometimes do on special occasions. I would never fly without glove or a sleeve. Have not worked up enough nerve to fly due to LE though.I often wear a night garment that looks like a one sleeve tight fitted tee shirt with special channeling sewn in. It's thick like an oven mitt. I have LE in my trunk also and now sometimes it bugs my breast, maybe once a week

Night garments are a whole different story working on a different principle. It is much less compression because we are resting. It may take your swelling down by morn so you may get away without a handpiece. Generally though without a handpiece the fluid may drive down into your hand. Everyone is different though. trial and error.

You can wrap if you like and see how arm and hand looks in morn. If that works then you may want to move to a night garment for easier donning instead of time consuming wrapping. However because you say you have swell, and soreness I think it would be wise to try wearing that good ole ugly gauntlet. Try, try, try all. Yup. I hate it too! So confusing. Keep trying and do post your gains and frustrations. We listen, we understand.

    Hi, Hugz4u -

STAR is short for Survivorship Training and Rehabilitation). It is a cancer rehabilitation program. It can encompass physical, occupational, and lymphedema therapy. There is a strict certification process that the centers go through. A referral from a medical oncologist is usually required. It was a good program but I only had 10 sessions, which did show an improvement. Maybe it is time to go back for a tune- up though.

The night-time garments I have seen look like they are quilted. I don't know if I can find a picture of it on the internet to include here. https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=CEWuDbMdkVtGWE...://www.compressionguru.com/jovipak-classic-arm-sleeve....

That particular one is $279, which is a bit much for me. There must be a different (better) alternative than that. I will have to look around though. How long have you been out of treatment for? It has been almost a year since my radiation has ended. Dec 19th 2014 was my last treatment. Now I am on Tamoxifen daily and going further into menopause. So much fun! How are things going for you? What is your story?
