cancer should get cancer and die.

Travel Loving what you are doing. Keep posting the synopsis of days gone by. It brings back memories. In that time we were into slogans to fight the pink. Plus, memories for those that are gone.
-
Travel, no overseeing the task..............I'm on to another thing............microbiome and Toradol. Plus, the reality is I'm not well day to day. I have days, I'm gang busters then not much. I tend to describe those days as my mind is taking a "walk about". I vary as too what I do. Frankly, I've slowed down on bumping my ' housekeeping threads' . They are threads of mine or others that I bump to keep active that are technical threads i.e port, rectal, constipation, here. I'm not even as active on my dear social thread Insomniacs. Insomniacs is my center now, Has been for ever. They are a core group family for me. You are in a different phase. I was in that phase awhile ago. Things change. Times change. What is today may not be what is tomorrow. I've had so many many years with out a medical break. When I can't deal with whatever I go on a 'walkabout'......................
-
Travel I have another thread--Poetry and jazz-Our and Others.----------When you are done I think I will transfer stuff there. My friend you are doing the work for me. That's very nice. Seriously, it's nice to see our old stuff being considered valuable..........cool.
-
Travel.....Duh.................. just said I couldn't do something .........then look at it as what can I do with it.
Travel my threads and the threads I mentor of others have about 700,000 viewings. They work b/c they meet a need. Just as this thread fulfilled a need. Just as your web site will fill a need.

OK, more delegation. Where are you Divine? I can see that you made a list of good charities a few years ago, and was wondering if you could check it and bring it up to date?

Divine, I can see that you started a list of sites to boycott and the thread was hit by the mods.
Well, we don't have censorship on pinktobersucks .com so you're welcome to revive that list if you wish.

OK, I've captured all the images, articles links and general info from the 94 pages that make up this post.
Here's a draft of the site menu titles and sub menus. There's bound to be omissions, so comments and suggestions welcome.

Hi Travel
Science section for studies and then you can copy my posts that apply from EBR thread except don't use my screen name
https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/73/topics/834695?page=1#post_4570431
-
OK, added science.
-
Great work Travel! A lot of thought and work there
It's a small thing but It is "Komen" with an e. Thanks for all you are doing.
-
I was just thinking it might be good to have a special section for charitynavigator and why it's important and how to use it. Charities linked may come and go. But people can always look for themselves on that site.
-
Katy there are more organizations than just CN. I'll be back with something I put in the Charities thread on evaluation of the organizations that evaluate charities. LOL It's kind of like 'who's on first"
I remember now. After reviewing the other organizations that review charitable foundations, I decided not to include them. I only put in that other organizations exist.
In looking at how charities are reviewed, each reviewing group establishes their criteria for scoring. It was much more than I wanted to get into. I thought at the time someone could likely get a degree in it (they do). I do suggest that anyone using a particular reviewer study why a charity is rated the way it is. For example, as with CN an organization they review may not have a 4 star rating, but be an excellent organization. When I first studied CN a few years ago I used the Leukemia Lymphoma Society as my benchmark charity. CN rated that they were less than transparent. Well with some digging I found out that LLS simply didn't agree with what CN wanted so they didn't provided them the info. That dinged them on their star rating. LLS is one of the biggest charities in the world. They not only fund research, they give money grants to patients. My DH was awarded two 5000$ grants from the national chapter and two 150$ grants from the local chapter. My concern about the 2-3/4 rating for LLS just was dismissed b/c they gave direct help to DH.
It's all relative.
-
great job, Traveltext!!
-
Katy, reading the different methodologies that the reviewing organizations use is just about the boringest thing anyone could do. I decided to stick with one. Since I already learned how CN worked I stuck with them. It was such a boring afternoon reading, I forgot it.
-
Komen fixed and Charity Navigator added.
-
Travel, click on the link in the topic box and go to the charities thread. A charity has to have function for 5 years before it can listed on CN. Also, they're charities that b/c they are small and have a specific local purpose may excellent charities, may never seek to be on CN.
For example, We have a local charity started by a RO group. It mission is to provide support in only two counties. It provides grant money for non-medical expenses. The amount changes each year based on the available funds. The first year we were given 2000$ each=total 4000$. Nice. Yet you will not find them on any reviewing organizations evaluation page.
The total in grants the year we were dx'd was 9,150$, and every penny was used.
LLS had a less than a 4 star rating by CN and the local no where to be found in national reviews. The review organizations don't tell the complete story for all charities. That's an important concept in evaluating a charity.

Charities are at the core of Pinktober so will need special attention. You have a good handle on this sas, so you can plan that part of the site and I'll put it online.
-
I just accidentally found this on YouTube. Rob Dyke talks about why NOT to donate to certain BC charities (SGK),and he discusses pink washing, the NFL, Avon, etc. Very informative...
Just go to YouTube and search the following:
I'm NOT Donating to Breast Cancer for the Cure

I know it's too late for this year, but hope someone who has the gift of the written English word, would contact "the Colorado Jr. Hockey league" to reconsider where the money should go next year. I happened to see this on Facebook and copied to this thread. English being my second language, I don't really master it, and I would probably screw it up if I tried to contact them. I will double check the name of the league, but know it is located in Colorado, since these two teams are in Aspen and Breckenridge. I will lose this if I go back I think.
dsgirl
Edited since the picture did not show, although it shows in preview and edit. back to the drawing board I guess.
Picture, which said it was public, showed The Aspen Leafs versus the Breckenridge Bucks, December 11th, all Ticket and Concessions Revenue goes directly to the Susan G. Komen Foundation to Help Breast Cancer Research.
Edited again to add the name of the league. Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League.

Rob Dyke Why I'm Not Donating To Breast Cancer.....
Janet- That's a good Youtube to share. I'm going to. Thanks!
I made the link hot above if anyone wants to click and watch.
-
I'd say that video would be perfect on our new site. Keep the good links coming.

LOL Travel you are funny. You keep trying to get me to work. Okay maybe. But I'm expensive. I once had one of my students that was a volunteer EMT say they were promised a 50% raise. I want a 50% raise.
-
OK sas, if you don't want a job then you have to stop telling us about your skills/interests
As to the 50% raise, done.
-
Must admit when the student said that I said "Did they give it to you?" He said "50% of nothing is still nothing". It was a DUH moment.
-
OK, here we go: http://pinktobersucks.com/
There will be more topics to cover, and this can happen over time. I've turned off discussion on the articles for now. Easier to manage the site.
Obviously, suggestions and corrections are welcome, especially from those whose text has been quoted. Anything can be added or deleted without any problems.
-
Travel- beautifully done! I love it! Will spend more time digging around but wanted to say I think you struck the right look AND tone. Not so easy to do.
Well DONE!!!!
-
Thanks JB. I didn't want to do something wishy washy, given the importance of the topic. At the same time, it is easy to go overboard with the wealth of material available. The idea is to present new material, but also to be a portal for other sites dealing with the topic.
This is just a start and I expect the site will be cram-packed by October next year. I look forward to receiving material from you (and others, of course).
-
Traveltext, great web site.
-
Love the beginning site! Thanks for taking it on and doing a bang up job!
There may be a typo in the first paragraph - awareness- vs aweness-raising.
