Tumor marker

Does anyone know why I would need to have a colonoscopy if I've had breast cancer, surgery, chemo and go back for check ups and tumor markers are ok? Wouldn't that be enough for my oncologist

I have seen others on here say that they are getting a colonoscopy also. I can tell you this, I am pretty certain that breast cancer tumor markers are different than colon cancer tumor markers. You can verify that by doing a google.

I don't think having had chemo would necessarily take care of premalignant polyps. Some breast & colon cancer genetic syndromes are related. Some lobular cancers tend to metastasize to the belly & gut. If you are of an age to have them just about any of your doctors will urge you to get one. Tumor markers aren't reliable for a lot of people, even if they were the same. I had sky high tumor markers & ascites for a low malignant potential ovarian cancer. Go figure. The docs were shocked to find out I wasn't in bad shape after all following surgery
