Stage 1 Grade 3
Still on a diagnostic journey and scared to death. After lumpectomy preliminary path report went from DCIS Stage 0 with possible micro invasion to Stage 1 with Grade III cells mixed in with non invasive cells. Margins are mostly clear with some close (.5mm). Re-excision next Monday with lymph nodes tested. Does all this sound bad? Scared to death. I am 76 in excellent health.

Stage 1 is still very early. Your doctor is being cautious, which is a good thing. Usually , with Stage 1, nodes are always tested. Totally understand your fear but Stage 1 is very treatable. I know you're scared so come here on BC.org to find out real answers to your questions. Stay off of Dr. Google . Most info is outdated . Keep us posted and we are here for you.

I was diagnosed with stage 1 grade 3 last year (2014) and am doing good. Finished with chemo in April and am taking Femara. I know it all sounds so daunting now, but trust me, it will get better.

Thanks, so much. It's very comforting to hear good news from other women. I wish you continued good health.

I was diagnosed stage 1 grade 3 in June 2011. I did chemo, radiation, and am Femara. Four and 1/2 years later I am doing great!

Hi Cathytoo, and welcome!
In addition to the great advice and support you've already received here, you may want to check out the main Breastcancer.org site's section on Your Diagnosis, which helps explain each piece of your path report, including stage, grade, margins and much, much more. This will give you a good head start and keep you informed as you navigate your diagnosis.
We're all here for you -- please keep us posted on what you find out!

Ladyboss,
Have you had any noticeable side effects with the Femara?

Hi Cathy,
I was diagnosed stage 1 grade 3 last October and I'm doing great now. If your oncologist doesn't suggest an oncotype test, you should inquire about it. Best wishes on your re-excision, you're going to be ok, hang in there and take care of yourself

Cathytoo, I am also on the waiting game. Lumpectomy on the 4th of Dec. and was doing pretty well. Now, I have a seroma sloshing around and very sore under my arm, too. Debating on whether I should call the surgeon in the morning or wait it out. Sounds like we are very similar. I am also stage 1 grade 3. Waiting on results of Mammaprint, and seeing the Medical Oncologist on Thurs, the 17th. I think waiting and wondering is the worst part! I have been encourgaged by all here! We can do this! These are my reasons for doing whatever it takes! Twin grandchildren at the church Christmas pageant tonight. Daelyn and Dathan (Mary and Joseph)
