Hi, I just want to put this info out for women to know. I have had13 reconstruction surgeries in past 3 years. 4 of the surgeries were because I thought the antibiotics the doctors prescribed me would keep me safe, ........ they didn't. I have had Cipro 12 times because I am allergic to Keflex and Clindamycin now, I have also had Vancomycin during surgery about 11 times. I don't have MRSA, but right after every surgery I start to get warm and pink because an infection is starting on my poor rad damaged skin, despite BEING on antibiotics.

Basically antibiotics don't work for me any more. Now I plan ahead for surgery and get IV Vitamin C the day after surgery. I had to get IV Vit C 2 times per week for 2 weeks when I got my TE in April 2015, to finally get rid of the imminent, dangerous signs of infection. I was on antibiotics the whole time which seemed to very slightly help, but not enough for my pain and redness to go away.

I pay out of pocket for this treatment at my Oncology trained Naturopath, because my insurance won't pay. Ironically, they paid for the extra surgeries I had to have because of my two bad infections, but they won't pay for IV Vitamin C, which works great, is nontoxic to normal cells, and has no side effects that I have ever noticed. It is well know that the stress of surgery causes Vitamin C levels to plummet, leaving increased susceptibility to infections, especially if you have had rads. http://www.naturalmedicinejournal.com/journal/2015-04/vitamin-c-aids-recovery-cardiac-surgery

This YouTube Video is great because it tells the story about the recovery of this man from a severe life threatening infection with IV Vitamin C.

I especially like this article because it discusses about IV Vitamin C being able to kill cancer, as well as infections. That is so great.

If I get signs of infection when I go for surgery this Thursday for my nipple reconstruction I have already planned to go in Friday and next Monday for IV Vitamin C. It is certainly safer, easier and cheaper to get multiple infusons of IV Vitamin C than to be hospitalized for IV antibiotics like so many poor woman have.

Wish me good luck on Thursday morning.

Wonderful! I too have had multiple surgeries & multiple infections to go with each surgery (causing me to lose my expanders again and again). I've read a lot about IV vitamin C and will be discussing this with my husband so we can look for a doc near me who does it! I'm having Lat flap surgery in a few weeks. Anything that will help keep the infections away is something I am eager to look into.

Thanks for the reminder (its been awhile since I've read up on it). And I wish you well with your surgery.

Hi Ruth, good luck with your upcoming surgery. Had mine yesterday. I got 10grams IV Vitamin C during the surgery, got another 50grams today, and plan on going in on Monday morning for another 50grams IV Vitamin C. I am also on Cephalexin, but it is giving me some diarrhea.

Then I will see if I have nailed it sucessfuly, escaped once more with no infection, otherwise I will keep getting the IV Vitamin C a couple more times until I knock out the infection. I had to have 4 infusions spread out over the 2 weeks after my TE surgery in April 2015 to finally beat the infection. Definitely cheaper and easier than doing hospitalization and massive doses IV antibiotics. AND it can KILL CANCER!

    What is not to love!!

I'm eager to hear how this all turns out. I understand very well about the frustration of going on numerous antibiotics only to have them cause side effects and reactions instead of dealing with the horrible infection that is causing you to lose your expander!

I hope you are not in too much pain from your surgery and that you heal up quickly!

    Hi Macb04,

was curious about ur iv vitc injections to help with ur infections... as I have had my left TE's removed twice due to pseudomonas infections. I am currently waiting a full yr. since last infection (sept.) after being on cipro first time around meropenum and piperacillan/tazobactrum iv for 6 wks this past fall. Will try to stay up on ur progression and hope for the best...was wondering if they ever told u what ur infection cultured out to be...pseudomonas is a commonly acquired hospital infection that is not easy to get rid of in some people...I am one of them! Good luck and good health!

Hi sixtysweeper63, I am doing well, healing without any problems. I had some low grade fevers in the first few days, with some warmth and pinkness on a few spots. I had 10 grams Vitamin C infused during the nipple reconstruction /fat grafting on 12/3 and 50 grams IV C infused with several nutrients like B vitamins, zinc, Acetyl L Carnitine on 12/4 and again on 12/7. My veins are not great, it is hard for them to put an IV in my arm, sometimes they stick me several times to finally get the IV going, but they and I persevere because it is the difference between horrible infections like I had on two past occasions, and successful reconstruction. I have had staph infections, not MRSA, thankfully. I am sorry to hear about you having pseudomonas, I have heard that is a very tenacious infection. I don't know for sure if Vitamin C will kill it, but there are some research about it killing other infections . http://www.holistic-doc-pain-support.com/IV-vitamin-C.html

This article discusses how Vitamin C is synergistic with some antibiotics to kill pseudomonas.

The above link is from a book on natural antibiotics. I bought it from Amazon.com. I have taken Sida, and Cryptolepis for prevention of infections when I had surgery. The last two times I got IV Vitamin C along with antibiotics and didn't get an infection.

I am planning to get my tattooing done this summer. Crossing my fingers.
