We took a driving trip to Arkansas--didn't know it was sooo beautiful. Trees aren't turning yet though. We visited several state parks with nice cabins and lodges and beautiful views....and ate too much food. We did some hiking, but not the same intensity we do in the mountains, so both dh and I picked up a few pounds. Dh told me he'd gained so I had to weigh and I did too... now to work that back down before the holidays. Dh can lose sooo much quicker than I can... he can workout so much harder. Doesn't seem fair!
-
i have heard that is a lovely part of the country, glad you had a nice time...
i think everybody carries a little more weight in the cooler months...
i don't know, maybe we just don't get as much exercise and spend more time at the table with holidays and all... -
I find it's easier to push away from the table when dh is doing it--so until he's lost his 5, we'll be watching the calories and fat together. (We always watch the fat--dh is an internist, and saturated and trans fats are off our list of foods. Not that we don't "cheat"--that 5 pounds tells that tale!)
-
Fall food is really healthy. All those vitamin rich vegetables. I usually do OK until Christmas. It's sweets that catch up with me.
I think we just get inside and don't stay as active as we should.
Great news on the 2 pounds Denise! -
Thanks Rose,
I only went down one pound this week. But that was a miracle considering that I ate out 4 days in a row within one week, and had gained 3 pounds.
I also took off my shoes for the weigh-in.
I e-mailed my friend Kathy, with whom I am competing, and told her to eat away, since I had gained 3 pounds, so she did. And at the weigh-in, she had gone up one pound!
My treadmill had broken a month ago, and I finally got it fixed 2 days ago, so when the weather is nasty, I can resume my treadmill-walking.
Another revelation I have recently had is the "soup factor". For the past several years, I have tried to avoid canned or processed foods and have been trying to eat all natural stuff. That sure does get boring. And I realized that the fat that I have packed on is probably just as unhealthy as eating the canned stuff. So now I eat a can of soup for lunch, which is only 2-3 WW points, versus the tuna salad sandwiches that I had been eating which were about 7 points. -
Yeah soup! Can you sneak in a whole grain roll or bread with that? I love to sopp the soup up. Many canned soups have beans in them which is good on the fiber front. They are easy to make which means you aren't standing around in the kitchen nibbling on everything while you put it together.
Despite my saying that cooking pumpkin was too hard I did it anyway:
Cut a pumpkin in half - bake at 350 an hour.
Scoop the seeds out.
Sautee zuchinni, onion, garlic, a bit of bacon or sausage in a pan.
Put the veggie stuff in the scooped out pumpkin. Sprinkly with parmesean cheese.
I made it for the week and my husband wants to know why we didnt' have it for dinner last week, so I think it's going to be a successs. I used chicken sausage, but pork would taste better! -
Yes, all my skinny friends love soup--they must stay away from the broccoli cheese.
As for the tuna sandwich, I know mayo isn't very good for you and both chicken salad and tuna salad, etc., have that as a base. I always take my sandwiches without mayo--wish that was all it took to get/stay slim... -
Bean with bacon is good mixed with vegetable beef. You end up with 4 servings, but you can put them in the fridge.
In Spain they did tuna with pimentos on bagettes. The pimentos were huge, almost like grilled red peppers. They mixed the flaked tuna in with a few olives. No mayo. The sandwich comes in a long waxed paper bag, which is good because the flaked tuna tends to fall out as you eat it. -
I love to eat at Panera Bread-I always stop there after my appt with my PS. I get a bowl of veggie soup-1 pt, and a whole grain baugette(sp?), which is only 2 points. I am not much of a bread eater, but those whole grain things are great!
So tonight I decided to roast some eggplant-I only got one eggplant in my garden from 6 plants. And my oven won't turn off! My stove is less than 2 years old and I have used the oven about 8 times!!! So I had to find the switch on the circuit breaker to turn it off.
Serves me right-finally trying to semi-cook and the darned thing breaks down from shock. -
love being gone a couple days and catching up...
rose that pumpkin thing sounds wonderful...going to sub acorn squash and go with it...haven't seen any good pumpkins at the store...
gosh we still have melons! cheap and good!
soup, any way you look at it i love it...yes, i too love fall food! -
Acorn squash would do perfectly. Once the pumpkin was cooked you really couldn't tell the difference.
Melon and jamon - my favorite appetizer. -
may all of our holidays be bright and fat-free but tasty...
may theresapw live in our hearts forever...
god bless! -
My officemate was telling me her ex took their sons to Panerra, for a 'healthy' meal.
I said, well think again. It's a beautiful meal, but most likely not all that healthy unless they were very particular about what they ordered! -
Think salad. Even if the goodies on top have calories, if you watch the cheese, salads don't have the saturated or trans fats. You do have to pick dressings carefully. Last time we ate at Panera they had discontinued the Fandago salad and that's the one I always chose.
And then there are some soups. Do you suppose boys eat that way? (Mine do, but they're fat/calorie conscious skinny adults.) -
That's too bad. I like the Fandango salad.
My lookup says it has 400 calories, which is good, BUT 28g of fat!
That's bad. Probably if you have the dressing on the side it's better. -
Where's your "lookup?" I use any dressing sparingly. 28 grams is a lot--but not too many saturated and trans fats, I hope. It does have the chicken. DH is all about the right kinds of fat. So what would the right fats be at a fast food restaurant?? You'd have to stick to salads there too. So Panera is still okay for the most part. (I really don't like most of their sandwiches.)
-
I had my WW meeting tonight. In 4 weeks I lost 4.4 pounds! Lucky 4's!! That is pretty good considering how much I cheated.
The WW meetings are really good for me as it keeps me constantly thinking about what I am grazing on.
Another "good thing"! My latest CT scan results--my former tennis ball sized liver tumor is now a pea-sized scar!!!!
Whoopee!!
Correction-I recalculated from the info in a Panera Bread brochure-the whole grain baguette is 4 points, not 2. Still good stuff anyway. -
Denise,
Great news about the CT scan results and nice going on the weight loss. -
Yeah Denise!
I look up at this place:
http://www.calorie-count.com/calories/item/63379.html
I'm not on weight watchers so I don't do points. -
Fandango salad has more saturated fat than I'd like, for a salad. It's interesting: the Asian Chicken is fewer calories and saturated fat and that correlates well with one of our local restaurants...The sweet berry salad (watch the dried cranberries and feta cheese) is twice the calories than the Asian salad and almost twice the fat. Both use grilled chicken. (That Applebee's Asian I think isn't too good, but we substitute grilled for crispy chicken.)
I'll have to check out that site a little more, Rose, and pass it on to my brother and friends! Thanks. -
Hi, folks - I'm new here. Thanks for the calorie-count website!
-
Thanks Rose,
That is a neat site! I signed up, but they say that my weight should be 123-In my dreams!
At least WW says I should be 137--also in my dreams.
I have found that it is hard to find the calorie count for a lot of area restaurants, so this site might be able to help me out. -
I agree - 123 is low. I've read things that indicate you are at increased risk of bone loss if you weight less than 128-130 pounds. So 123 would be bad for your health!
Didn't the Fandango salad have blue cheese/walnuts with a raspberry dressing? Could be I'm confused. I think blue cheese might be the killer on the fat. Which is too bad because I really like blue cheese.
P.S. I did dig around a little and found some stuff on their site:
http://www.panerabread.com/pdf/nutr-guide.pdf
It looks like the Strawberry Poppyseed&Chicken Salad is the absolute diet plate. I like the sandwiches, but I think you need to take some home or have them on a day when you aren't eating much else.
Maintaining a healthy weight isn't about starving yourself. If you know what these things 'cost' diet-wise then you can still have them, but in moderation. -
Hi Ladies,
checking in on you
I am reading here frequently, just not posting. I am frustrated about my weight, seem to stagnate but not loosing.
I also wonder where cowgirl is?
She hasn't posted in 2 months???
God Bless -
Rose,
I am absolutely addicted to the strawberry-poppyseed chicken salad, but as of Aug. 31, my area stores quit offering it, as the strawberries are now out of season-darn it! -
Sorry, Rose , I was confusing. The ingredients listed in my post were the ones in the local chain here, not Panera. And I'm sure the blue cheese can't be good except for taste! My absolute favorite salad at Panera is that strawberry poppyseed chicken... but summer only.
There's a low cal raspberry vinigrette dressing that taste good, but not all restaurants serve it and go for the more caloric one. -
totally of topic...
i sold my condo!
stay tuned for the grisly details...
love to all! -
That's very good news.
I was a bit concerned about your condo after reading of the market slowing down. -
geez you look great in your new avatar, rose!

I thought I was feeling a little chilly in that tank top now that it's cooled off. This is me in front of the Prado museum. I did buy Corel Photo so I've had some 'work' done.
I have a recommendation for white bean soup at WF. It was on sale last week. The Coco Pazzo brand. It was pretty good, even my son, no fan of bean soup, ate it.
5g of fat, so not totally fat-free, 8g of fiber.
