Possible Impact of Menstrual Cycle and Surgery Timing on Outcome

While waiting for my delayed surgery, I have been reading lots of breast cancer studies. There seems to be some studies showing an affect on outcomes for women who have surgery on Day 0-7 of their cycle (if they have lymph involvement) and an almost equal number of studies that show no correlation. Has anyone's BS or MO discussed this? Of course I am freaking out since my period started today so I will be Day 6 on the day of my surgery. I won't know if I have lymph involvement until after my surgery. I begged to have my surgery moved up 2 weeks so I could be feeling okay for Christmas since I have 4 young kids- will I regret that???.

I remember reading the same information 10 years ago right afer my lumpectomy and freaking out as I was on day 3 for the surgery. My doctor never said anything to me then. I dont believe that had anything to do with my recurrence, being as it's been 10 years. My surgery is the same day as yours and I should be starting my period tomorrow or Tuesday. Lucky us! Aside from the inconvenience, I don't honestly believe it will change anything. I have a different doctor this time, and she hasn't mentioned it either. There's a lot of information out there that will tell us we're doing something wrong. Try not to stress about this part.
