Question about side effects

Options

Hi,

Has anyone had any experience with nanoparticle chemotherapy such as Doxil? I have heard that these types of therapy can yield less severe side effects than normal chemotherapy. I am asking on behalf of my friend, who was recently diagnosed. With her insurance, Doxil unfortunately costs much more than doxorubicin and she was wondering whether this type of therapy would be worth the money. Did you experience less of the typical harsh side effects on Doxil?

Thanks!

Hi Gromit, and welcome to Breastcancer.org!

We're sure you'll have some helpful advice shortly from our members. In the meantime, you may want to check out the main Breastcancer.org site's page on Doxil, for a list of common side effects associated with this drug, and lots of other good info for those looking to take this medication.

Also, if your friend is concerned about cost of care, you may want to share with her this page on Tips to Lower Medicine Costs, which lists pharmaceutical companies that offer discount programs for those having trouble paying for their medications, including Doxil, among many others:

"Janssen Biotech, a pharmaceutical company of Johnson & Johnson that makes Doxil (chemical name: doxorubicin) and Procrit (chemical name: epoetin alfa), offers Janssen Prescription Assistance. Johnson & Johnson offers information on the Johnson & Johnson Patient Assistance Foundation, Inc., which can also be reached at 1-800-652-6227 for more information."

    We hope this helps!
