both my kids are freaked, wondering if they should get on a plane now, or what they should do. He lives in Illinois. Daughter is going there for two weeks at Christmas. It's hard, they want to be there for him, but not have him feel they are saying goodbye because they think he is dying. I think he will want them there, I don't know, but that's just my sense, having known him all my life.

    I hate this.

Theresa, I know the awkward feeling when you live so far away that any flight back home "means someone must be dying." I always felt kind of like the angel of death when I'd go home to visit a sick family member. But, if your ex took a turn for the worse and your kids hadn't gone to visit, they might have a hard time forgiving themselves for that so may be better to just get there as soon as they can. That being said, so many people make full or near full and speedy recoveries from strokes- I hope that for your ex and sending good wishes for your mom and your biking friend too. One of my co-worker's husband was hit on his motorcycle this morning and is in the hospital. I just want to put 2015 to bed and start a new year with a whole lot less trauma and loss.

I'm starting to get really excited about thanksgiving, I think it's my favorite holiday ( or tied with Halloween!)

I moved to Portland 13 years ago with my bff who I've known since third grade. He had been living in NYC for years and was tired of it, and after 9/11 he had no hesitation joining me on my adventure to the west coast. We lived together for 6 years and now we share the holidays as a chosen family. Ill be contributing the corn souffle and stuffing.

    ((((((Theresa))))))

Thinking of you and sending gentle hugs your way. I know that the decision to go or nor to go can be a wrenching one when someone close to us is in crisis. Posting here is welcome - Imglad this is your "go to" place. I'm thankful for this space, where to rant or vent is totally safe.

Let us know how you and yours are going forward.

Oh, god, Theresa. What a nightmare. HUGE hugs to you. Come here and vent/discuss anytime.

Avmom: Do you take any B vitamins at all? I think a good level of B vitamins helps to coat your nerves. It won't cure it, I am sure, but it could help some.

    Corn souffle sounds yummy.

Family in convergent transit. Mom's connection on time (thus far), sister's 10 minutes late but we'll hope that's not a problem. Listening to "Alice's Restaurant" and trying not to give myself LE during last-minute cleaning.

Thanks to everyone. My mom is going home today, and looks like ex-husband is going home today or tomorrow, thank goodness. So that's a relief. Somebody posted that my mom's shortness of breath could have been related to the UTI, and that's probably what it was since they found nothing of concern.

I've been having the grandchildren make get well cards this morning. So funny how things can go from complete crap to optimistic overnight.

Thanks to all for being there.

Theresa - so glad to hear the great news. I don't know about shortness of breath, but a friend of mine's a nurse and she said that UTI's in older people can really cause disorientation. It's so obvious that it's the first clue they may have a UTI.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday. I bet it was about a year ago that many of you were diagnosed (me, not til 2/9). What an accomplishment for all of us this year, and not one any of us care to repeat.

    Hugs,

    Sue

Thanks everyone. The three grandkids just left, I'm beat. What am I thinking taking them from 8:00 - 7:00 all at the same time, three of them under 5? But I want them to know each other and remember me, just in case. And I get a ton of coloring, play doh and painting in, along with silly games like Swatto so I'm sure it is good for me. We also did a We Love You Grandpa sign and sent their grandpa in the hospital a picture, which he loved.

Anyway, I'm done in lol. But as Scarlett O'Hara said, tomorrow is another day!

I'm done in too. Work has been crazy getting 200 birds and rodents ready to be adopted. Those little critters are a lot of work. I'm thankful that I seem to have my stamina back and can keep up with my co-workers, or out work certain ones! Long days and hard work means a better nights sleep too so I'm thankful for that. Last night my have been the first night I slept through without waking since this shit show started last January.

Theresa, that's excellent news about your mom and ex. So glad both are doing so much better today.

E - so sorry for you. I, personally, was hoping so much that you could reconcile. I can see how much you and Alan still mean to each other.

Many hugs going your way in this very difficult time.

Sorry E- hugs. I get it. I still like, maybe even love my ex. Filing was sad and exhausting, but necessary. And there was no joy in its finality. Maybe some relief when all the legal bs is over. I'm glad you are safe and mostly secure, though, financially and otherwise. That makes me feel better about it, if not you.
