I just got my test results back and am positive for the mutation rad51c. Of course this increases my risk of breast and ovarian cancer and because it is a newer gene they haven't developed recommendations yet. Any one here with this mutation and if so what was recommended for you?

Sorry no one has responded - that mutation may be fairly rare, as you probably know!

Do be sure to check in at the FORCE website (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered: lots of BRCA 1/2 reports there but also a place to list your particular genetic findings) in addition to the PROMPT study. There is a post our moderators kindly pinned to the top of this forum with a link to that group.

Which mutation in the RAD51C gene are you carrying? [RAD51C is the name of that gene - it's not the name of a specific mutation.]

I recently tested positive for Rad51C mutation. But I also tested positive for BRCA1 :/ Because of how BRCA1 operates, it basically plays a trump card to my Rad51C, so all my recommendations are based off BRCA. I know that's not really helpful for you, but just wanted you to know there are other RAD people out there too!! Good luck :)

I had a variance in rad51c and msh6. Currently the only recommendation was to test my parents for the msh6 gene. My dad also has a variance.... Not sure what to do with the information. I have my 6 month appt with bs end of May I'm going to talk to her then and see what she recommend
