I hope it's just limited to this forum, but within the past hour or so we seem to have been hit with at least three spam posts (one of which is disguised with a “legitimate" subject line. These hackers are shameless.

This happens almost every weekend, I suggested to the mods that maybe they should charge a small fee for membership but the spammers would probably pay it anyway. They are so annoying.

I haven't seen as much spam this weekend as seems to be usual/common.

That's a really good idea MusicLover. I'm sure, we as members WOULD pay an annual fee. I doubt a spammer would pay. I can see why it's not possible though....some members simply don't have the money and it would be heartless to exclude someone. I'm no IT expert, but maybe the software could be adapted to hunt for key words like "watch on-line" or "HD" or "buy__here". There has to be some way to make less work for the Mods. I can imagine it's quite a daunting task to have to deal with these messages on top of everything else.

Yeah, not a great idea that I had but leggo you're correct it must be daunting and I wish that I could have thought of something better.

I thought it was a really good idea! Could generate some income, great all around. I'm sure any of us would pay the fee too, for someone who can't afford it, or the Mods could waive it, whatever the case may be. I wish there was a fair way to implement it. No way would a spammer hand over their credit card #.

I wouldn't want to see any barriers put up that could stop people who need this online support group from joining. Payment could be a barrier because of privacy issues. We don't do too badly just policing it ourselves, and the mods doing their part.

    Shetlandpony,
I agree. It's a nuisance, but pretty easy to report and then ignore.

I wouldn't want to see a fee, because I think it would discourage the people who are not yet diagnosed, but waiting on test results or worried about something they have just noticed, from joining and getting advice and support. I think our availability to those people is very important.
