Hello -- My best friend was recently diagnosed with Lobular Breast Cancer. She is 71, and in fantastic shape... very health conscious, does a lot of juicing and eats organic when she can afford to. $$$ is a problem. Medicare, of course, supports the Western "solutions" much more than the "holistic" choices...

My own breast cancer was ductal, so I don't know much about Lobular. However, I have been going with my friend to her first appointments -- and all the western medicine docs seem to think Lobular is more invasive -- that it sends out tentacles... and there is more likelihood of "microscopic cancer cells" -- etc etc (all scary stuff) and yet they still offer "lumpectomy" as an option... which seems a bit odd to me. Oh, Lumpectomy with radiation, of course... (which I personally find plenty frightening. I skipped both Chemo and radiation in my own treatment plan... had a low oncotype, so had the luxury of that choice).

I did the western medicine way (double mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction) -- and for me, at that time (4 years ago) and the circumstances I found myself in then, I still believe it was the best choice for me... but if I were asked again today to make those choices, I am pretty certain I would be slower to rush into major surgery with such long-lasting (potential) complications.

My friend is a bit overwhelmed. I have suggested several times that she come here and read -- ask questions of others who are using the more natural path to healing.

And, when she is ready, she will come.

In the meantime, I hope someone reading this will have some words of encouragement re treating breast cancer (specifically lobular bc) successfully by natural and not extremely expensive means.

As I said, she already juices and has stepped up her regime since diagnosis... cutting the fake foods out ...

I will forward any responses to her... and hopefully get her engaged here... it's not that she isn't interested, she is reading all about Gerson, Dr. Day, several other ideas, but has not opened this BC.org door yet for herself.

Thanks for any input,

Linda

No dairy, no alcohol (or very limited), no fermented foods, loads of vegetables and fruit and pulses, beans and nuts........and think about aromastase inhibitors or if wanting all natural then Indole 3 Carbinol, Salvestrol Platinum, and vegan omega 3..........

Is anyone here using ONLY food (and supplements/exercise) as their treatment plan? This is what my friend is interested in trying... and I would love to find her some positive support, if this is the path she decides to try before succumbing to western medicine's drastic measures... (?)

Linda, I have ILC and I've been doing only that and the first thing I dropped out of my diet was sugar. Your friend has probably already done that but I've got to tell you that when I was juicing, I was starting to gain weight again so I've backed off of it. I was using carrots and apples in my mix though so that may have been why, so now I just eat the whole foods. I still have about 15 lbs to go so I'm looking into calorie restriction b/c the research is showing it to be extremely beneficial for cancer patients. What is her weight like? Also, this past summer I did a 21 day fast and found that it helped a lot--the biggest thing it did was to reduce the estrogen load in my body and threw me into instant menopause, which needed to be as I'm running soooo late, at 56. I'm over 95% ER+ too so that helped. With dropping the sugar though, the tumor growth stopped. I've had my period since I was 11 and 56 now so I'm sure that's why I have BC, or it's a big part of it.

Lily is right about no alcohol--this one is more common with women who are alcoholics, though I feel cheated b/c I've barely averaged one drink a week since I had my children and that was almost 24 years ago! Include the pregnancies and there was no alcohol consumption at all then. I did break down a couple of weeks ago and had a bloody mary but that was probably my first hard alcohol since being dx'ed over 2 years ago and I needed it for stress control lol.

In the interest of full disclosure though, I've got to tell you that my holistic MD had me get all my mercury fillings changed out and put me on a detox regime and I still go in and get vitamin C IV's periodically. But, I haven't had any surgery, chemo, or radiation and I don't take any drugs.

Here is a video about mushrooms being great aromatase inhibitors and the good news is that the ones that are best are the common little button mushrooms from the grocery store: http://nutritionfacts.org/video/breast-cancer-prevention-which-mushroom-is-best/ The rest of the website is very, very informative as well and it goes into detail about solving health issues with nutrition.

She may want to check into her MTHFR status too and/or just get the special B vitamins. I get mine from Seeking Health and I try to get in at least one green salad/day for the folate. I also take Iodine and that has helped a great deal--I went from a DD to a B cup from the iodine, due to losing the fibrocystic tissue and now my breasts don't hurt.

Here's another article that just gives an overview of first things to do when dx'ed though your friend is probably past that point now: IF THIS DOCTOR WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER, HE WOULD IMMEDIATELY DO THESE 5 THINGS Still, it may help other newbies.
