So, long story short, my sister lost her battle to breast cancer in 1992. She had a lump and did nothing about it for 9 months (I'm still baffled why). I was diagnosed in April and took action quickly knowing I will do all I can to fight. Well, my brother-in-law is now diagnosed, waited 9 months before having the suggested mammogram, finally had a lumpectomy & axillary nodes where they found microscopic traces. He will have chemo & radiation.

Does anyone think this is wierd? I wonder about pockets of cancer in certain areas.

It does seem to be quite unusual. Is he going to speak to a genetic counselor / get gene tested? Sorry for all the heartache in your family. This stuff is terrible.

There were a few known cases of what you call "pockets". The most famous being the camp Lejeune water contamination that caused a number of male Marines to get breast cancer.

Farmer, My niece, their daughter, did do the BRCA testing and is negative. However she had a prophylactic BX because she was having "issues" and there were just too many similarities between her and her mom. I think she did the right thing even though she knows it's still not a guarantee that something won't happen.

Seachain, no military; however, we grew up in a town near JPL (does all sorts of space work) and I know they settled a lawsuit in the 90s. I can't seem to figure out if anyone is pursuing anything now, Google isn't helping! That's interesting and sad about Camp Lejeune.

Honestly I'm really glad to hear about your niece's surgery. I know some feel it is extreme but cutting risk by 97% makes perfect sense to me.
