I am not sure if this is a forum for just personal survivors of cancer or not but finding out information has been overwhelming. My grandmother is 73 and was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. She had a tumor in one breast and it was malignant, afters tests shower the cancer had not yet spread but the doctors suggested because of her age a double masectomy would be her best chance. After the tests to check if she would be a candidate for surgery, it was discovered that her lungs were too weak. She had been a baker who worked with wooden ovens ie. Smoke inhalation was common, for 50+ years and it had taken its toll on her lungs. The doctors gave her some medicine to strengthen and clear her lungs, in hopes she would be healthy enough for surgery within a year time. BUT does anyone know what other options she may have for fighting the cancer while its still in her body? Without surgery it is just going to progress. My grandmother lives in Central America, I just want to know she is getting all the correct information and is being given proper treatment. Thank you for anyone who has any advice. I am glad to have found this forum, reading through some posts, it has made it a bit easier to try and comfort my own mother during this time

    goodness, sad for your grandmother

sorry as I have always thought that for me, at the wild age of 66, I would do treatment but not sure as I age.

but a pal of mine just did lung surgery for lung cancer (she previously did BC surgery twice) and now she is recovering from Hip surgery.

she needs to have someone work with her on the breathing first and hope for strength

She MIGHT be a candidate for an Aromataste inhibitor. Sorry she is going through this.

    Stone-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're so sorry for what your grandmother is going through, we know it is a difficult time, made more so by the distance and breakdown in information. Have the doctors ruled out treatment before surgery, such as chemo or radiation? Also seconding what 123Justme said, it's worth asking if she's a candidate for an Aromataste inhibitor for the time being.

We hope you find the answers and support you need, and that this community helps you help your grandma!
