Hello everyone. I am writing for my sister. She is 24 years old. She was diagnosed on September10th with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in her left breast, stage llA , Grade 3 , Triple negative , Nottingham histologic score 9/9 also it has Medullary carcinoma features (slow growing, and has white blood cells).

On 3/11/ 2015, She had bilateral skin and nipple sparing mastectomy and reconstruction surgery at the same time. The surgeon removed 8 lymph nodes and all are unaffected 0/8.

Also, we have strong family history, my mom and aunt. Fortunately both are survivor after 2 years (mom) and 30 years (my aunt).

I would just like to ask patients who like my sister's situation about did you go through chemotherapy, how many rounds, and what are , have you heard that chemo is not necessary for Medullary carcinoma?. One of her specialists told her that she do not need to undergo chemo because it has not spread to lymph nodes and tissue of right and left breast is removed ,while the oncologist recommended chemo and should be 6 rounds because she is very young.

She can not decide about forego chemo or no. She is still in university and she is afraid Chemo will affect on her study. We need to hear about your experiences.

    Hello Nooralkad,

I have just read your post and wanted to say that I was sorry to read about your sister's diagnosis at such a young age. I just wanted to reassure you that she will get through all of this.

All our breast cancers are very personal and on the whole the oncologists will decide the best regimen to treat each person.

The standard treatment is usually surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and the oncologist and breast cancer consultant usually decide which is the best way to go. Sometimes chemotherapy is used first for large tumours, otherwise it is surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the end.

I was interested to read that your sister has IDC with some medullary.

You might like to join the very large and useful thread Calling all TNs. You are sure to find someone there who can answer your particular problems. You can also post on the smaller thread Calling all those with triple negative breast cancer in the UK. People post here from different countries.

There are different chemotherapy drugs and different regimens for treatment.

Wishing your sister all the very best.

    Sylvia

All my sister's experts told her that the rate of recurrence in patients diagnosed with triple negative is high during the first 3-5 years, but then the rate is extremely low. So I am happy you're a 10 plus year winner. Hope that for all patients. Thank you so much for your advices.
