Help me understand BRCA1

A year and a half past diagnosis, and now I'm starting to go through all the info and try to understand more about my diagnosis.

Here's the part I need help with:

"Average number of chromosome 17 per cell: 2.5" I googled chromosome 17 and learned that it's BRCA1. But I haven't been able to find out what the significance is for 2.5.

Just briefly, in googling this it looks like the count of Gene 17per 2.5 cm is used in the FISH test to verify HERpositive or negative status and maybe if I am understanding correctly, sometimes chemosensitivity. I don't see the count being used for BRCA testing, but I could be wrong.

Is this supposed to be the result of a genetic test for BRCA mutations? I've had genetic testing (which uncovered a BRCA2 mutation), and this doesn't sound anything like a genetic test result. Unless someone mentioned BRCA1 to you separately from what's written here, there's nothing here that indicates a BRCA1 mutation.

No, it is the test to determind if your tumor does or does not overexpress HER2 and whether Herceptin should be given. Your stats show you are Her2 Negative. It is the FISH test they did

Thanks for the info. I was confused because when I looked up chromosome 17, it seemed to tie it to the BRCA1 gene.
