Diagnosed November 4th
I got the call 11/4 informing me I had breast cancer. I still cannot believe it. I am so frightened. I didn't dream in a million years it would be me, they all say it is unlikely, but here I am. They said I have invasive mucinous cancer. I read it is a rare kind but also read it can be "mixed" with another type. I was not given any other information, I go see the surgeon this Friday. My question, if anyone has had this type or knows, since it can be "mixed" is it best to get a second opinion. I am so afraid they will miss something, I just want to do what is best of course. I don't know anyone personally that has had breast cancer and looking to be able to converse with ladies that can relate.

Hi Kerskarina,
Sorry you have found yourself here but you will get lots of support! The waiting is the hardest part. Once your treatment plan begins to fall into place you will feel much better.
I don't have mutinous breast cancer but there are several women who do and I'm sure they will be sharing their knowledge with you. The moderators will be along too to share info some info too I bet. Hugs! -
Hi Kerskarina-
We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We are so sorry you find yourself here, but we're glad you've joined us. You are most definitely not alone, and you've come to the right place for support as you begin down this road.
We have an active thread here for other members with mucinous cancer that you might find interesting. You can find that here: https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/137/topic....
We know it's scary and unknown right now, but hopefully you'll start to feel a bit more in control once you meet with your surgeon and get some more information. Please keep us posted on how your appointment goes!

I read that “mucinous" invasive bc is one of the slowest-growing and most manageable types. (Some--if a high enough % of cells are “mucinous”--may not even need hormone therapy, even if ER+; and some, if smaller than 1cm, might not even need treatment beyond surgery). Nobody who gets invasive ductal carcinoma can be said to have “lucked out” compared to someone without breast cancer, but here’s hoping you’re one of those fortunate ladies who have a less rocky road to recovery!

Kerskarina,
In addition to the helpful info you've received from our other members, you may also want to check out the main Breastcancer.org site's pages on IDC: Mucinous Carcinoma.
We hope this helps! Please keep us posted on how you're doing!

Thank you for your good thoughts. I go to see the surgeon today and hopefully, I will have a good outcome for treatment. I have read about mucinous carcinoma and seen that it is the slowest growing so I am hoping that I am not the exception. If anyone out there has had this type I would love to hear from you. You are so right, the anxiety of waiting and the unknown is the worst. I am prone to anxiety and panic attack so just keeping myself in check is a great achievement for me. Thanks for helping me do that!
