Miss Bee!!!!!!!! I'm glad to here you made it through to the other side with good things to report. After talking to the plastic surgeon today, I may go with a BMX if insurance will pay for it, and if it can be nipple sparing. Maybe something good can come out this?
I am soooooo freaking sore from the biopsies they did yesterday. It's 4am here and it woke me up I'm hurting so bad. I have to have another one today. Then a 4 hour drive home. I may have to wait another day to come home. I'm just so spent and in pain.
I hope to hear from our other sisters who just recently went in. I can't believe my day is coming up so fast. So many things to get taken care of before time to go in, and I'm stuck in H-town getting my boobies stuck.
Love & light those in surgery today. Surrounding you with peaceful, protective light of God (universe, Goddess, your preferred Higher Power) and the angels, knowing you will come through this with stories of comfort for those coming behind you. Huge hugs, ladies. We're all behind you here.
(See, I'm not a big baby *all* the time!)

I had my final revision surgery on Monday! Just popping in to wish you all luck and say that for some, reconstruction might be a long road, but there is an end and life gets back to normal.
I had a bmx with DIEP recon in September 2014, revision 1 this past May and a final tweek this week. Anxiously awaiting nipples and tats by Vinnie Myers.
Bee, I don't see any fat on your tummy to remove! You certainly didn't need a tummy tuck. Glad you are happy with the results.
Frill, I suppose its good to save your nipples if you can, but I don't think they are the same afterwards anyway. I think most lose sensation in them and I don't know if they keep the ability it get hard. If you're really leaning toward bmx, but they can't save your nipples, know that many women report they are very happy with the reconstructed nipples and tats. I can't wait to get mine!
Best wishes to all.

I had my TE exchange on Monday. I certainly feel better than I did after the BMX. I laughed a little when I undid the binder on my belly (fat grafting donor site) to see a heart shaped bandage.
The boobs look small but I have read on here these are them yet. Drop and fluff, I think? Either way, I am just glad this is behind me.
Best of luck and good wishes to those who are having surgery this month!
-
Miss Bee - So great to hear you are doing well!!!!
I'm one week out from surgery. I will have a BMX with TE. I'm doing pretty well so far emotionally but perhaps that is because I just finished chemo. I'm ready for this next step to be done. I'm really hoping I won't have to have radiation but won't know until the pathology comes back after surgery.
I live 2-1/2 hours away from my immediate family. They've made plans to come stay with me for the first week after surgery. I'm so thankful they will be there. I have 4 sisters so between them and my mom I will have a lot of support. My husband has been great but this will allow him to focus on our 4-1/2 year old.

I know how you feel about not wanting to stress out your family. We have two in college one a senior and in finals and one who has struggled with school and is away from home. We also have two done with college with families and new jobs, one is pregnant. At the first it was just a lumpectomy so I told them all it was no big deal. Then it became a much bigger deal when they identified multiple tumors (more than 15) spanning a 6cm area. Then the PET scan came back with possible metastasis in my abdomen (false positive) and then a torn retina out of the blue. Through it all my husband and I cried and laughed as needed, but only my youngest son called two or three times a week to see how I was and talk about his life and mine.
Yesterday I cried for awhile just thinking that none of them knew enough about it to decide to be there the day of the surgery. If something were to happen there would be no opportunity to tell them how much I love them and how proud I was of them.
We decided to call the two that are in college 60 miles away to see if they could come home for dinner the weekend before just to all be together. Don't get me wrong, I have so much love and people offering to help and pray and care for me that I am amazed and touched. My sister is flying in from Florida to stay over a week to be there for me and my husband.
There is something different about our children though. I feel a little selfish about it. Even though they don't know all we are going through with a bilateral MX, TEs. Chemo. Radiation and recon, I wish they would be there that day.
It is difficult putting our own needs in front of those of our children.

You are not a big baby at all. This is a place for sharing all of our fears and worries. -
Debiann, My surgeon told me I was "too thin" for the DIEP alone. Nicest thing anyone had every said to me, lol! We solved that by also using thigh tissue.
Doing well and I have more advice for you: paint your toenails something fabulous! You will be spending a lot of time staring at them. Plus I've gotten compliments from my entire care team on them. Next up : de-orange myself! Thinning of all of you and sending love.

I was diagnosed in one breast on 09-08-15 and then the right breast on 09-15-15. I spent the rest of Sept and October getting opinions. My surgery is 11-15-15, I have had counseling to help me control anxiety and stress, it has helped and I'm happy I took the time for it.
I'm still nervous and will prob cry before and after surgery, but it's natural. Let the tears flow. Not everyone has to deal with cancer and for that we are WARRIORS!!
XOXO TO ALL OF YOU LADIES!
-
TallnTerrific I think you hit the nail on the head there.
"It is difficult putting our own needs in front of those of our children."
As mothers that is a concept that is foreign to us. Something we have never had to do before.
But to be there for our families in the future we need to make our own health a priority for the moment.
Must admit I am still struggling with this at the moment.

Hi!
I'm brand new here, I was just diagnosed less than two weeks ago, but am scheduled for a bilateral mastectomy with tissue expander placement and sentinel node biopsy on November 13th. My sister was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in January and had BMX in Feb. (we are both in our 30's). She has been a great resource for me the past two weeks. Good luck to each of you
-
I'm scheduled for November 25!
-
Hi Jblmom, and welcome to Breastcancer.org. We're sorry to hear about your diagnosis and for your sister's too... And you both so young! We hope you find this to be a place of support and encouragement. There are many forums to post in. Given your situation, you may want to post and meet others in the Young With Breast Cancer forum.
Let us know how everything goes, good luck with surgery!
Best,
The Mods

Cjafarm and Pattymeg are off to surgery today, so lots of love, light and prayers for them today!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're all behind you, sending you tons and tons of love.
MissBee, if it weren't SOOOOO inappropriate, I'd ask to see your awesome new boobs so I'd know what to look forward to. I'm seriously considering BMX now just to have it over and done with - and to have a new set of tatas lol. You keep me from totally sinking into oblivion. I'd be you if this were anything else, attitude-wise. What are those things on your legs? I have on my list to have my hair, lashes, and mani pedi the day before going into the hospital. All bf can do is roll his eyes.
Debiann, I saw the nipple reconstructions on the hospital website and I just can't believe it! Lol. The one thing I worry about (and maybe TMI) is my nipples never grew? I don't know how else to say it. I still have the same size.
The plastic surgeon said I was a great candidate for implants, if that's what I want. I think it might be because I don't know about the other put fat from other places into the boobs options, lol. She just didn't bring it up. All I heard was - lumpectomy, radiation, half as big and I started freaking out.
Anyway, prolly not the right forum lol.
Jblmom, I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I have just recently heard about mine, and your surgery is scheduled before me. Good luck, and know that we'll all be thinking about you on your day.
-
Hey ladies! I made a typo my surgery is 11-17-2015. I have been, going a little wacky trying to get things together for surgery. Hugs kisses and prayers to you all.
-
Hi, Everyone! This is just my second post (first was on the IDC Forum). Happy to find this thread. My BMX surgery is November 12th. Been super busy trying to prepare.
-
Forgot to add that I'm also having SNB w/ BMX and TEs placed.
-
Welcome Jblmom and Thundergal64 !!

Just so you all know I edited the original post to make all of the corrections. Let me know if their are others that should be made. As I get closer to my date I am amazed by those who have such strength and emotional energy to post after their surgeries. You are leading the way for the rest of us! When a group has positive and enthusiastic leadership they cannot fail! We are on a course for success!
-
So true! I'm not a big medicine user, but I shared with my primary care doctor the intense lightheaded, off the chart emotional swings and she suggested Adivan as needed. Skeptical as I was, I've found that it takes the edge off and makes being around me a little more tolerable. The way I look at it, needing to take this med is a temporary thing. It helps, and help is what I need!
-
jinx27, how reassuring to find another ridiculously
busy nester🐤! I've been plowing though closets, cleaning the refrigerator and drawers like a madwoman. This weekend's task- setting up my closet to make sure I can reach my cozy PJs and comfy clothes after surgery. All of this nesting is a nice distraction from what's up ahead. MRI assisted biopsy next week of a newly discovered "suspicious" area in my L breast (the supposedly healthy one!).
Hugs, hugs and hugs to all of the ladies recovering from last week's surgeries!!
TallnTerrific - thanks for being our calendar queen- it's so nice to be able to see everyone's scheduled surgery in one place!
-
Bee, so you have incisions on your breasts, tummy and thighs? Yikes! It will all heal and the scars fade nicely, but isn't awful when you first see yourself all cut up? I felt like Frankenstein. How many drains do you have?
Frill, you may want to see more than one plastic surgeon to hear all your options. They only tell you about the types of recon they themselves do. If you are interested in DIEP you have to do a little research ahead of time as not all do it.
The things on Bees legs are to prevent blood clots in the legs during surgery. They caused me a little problem. Prior to my 13 hour surgery I had some neuropathy in my right foot from chemo. The "boot" apparently pressed on a nerve during surgery and I awoke with something called "dropfoot". I couldn't rise my right toes and foot. Walking was difficult. I had to do a few months pf physical therapy. Its back to where it was after chemo, not 100%, but not a problem either. They didn't put the boot on that leg for my last surgery.
-
feeling great. Minimal pain/discomfort. No cancer in lymph nodes👍🏻. Walked the halls a couple of times during the night. Just waiting for discharge papers

Hi everyone! I too am scheduled for a double mastectomy in November. (24th). I have a very early stage small tumor in left breast but had radiation 15 years ago to the chest area for Hodgkins Lymphoma and am not really a candidate for lumpectomy/radiation...after much discussion, I decided to do the right breast too as it cut my future chances of breast cancer way down to almost nothing. I am so glad to have found this thread- been reading for hours and hours! You all have made me laugh and cry and stop and say a prayer. I also have a question and welcome any input!
I haven't decided whether I will do a TRAM or DIEP flap reconstruction or Tissue Expanders and implants. My PS couldn't tell me for sure that he wouldn't have to take muscle and kind of leaned toward the TE's for implants later. I am 45, overweight and a 38DD/40D. I like my breasts- they've been good to me until now, lol. I also want full symmetrical breasts and wouldn't mind at all if they put them back up where they used to be!
What is implant with fat grafting? Is that what I need? The PS also said implants would be smaller than the FLAP. HELP!!!! I can't decide!
-
Letsdothis Welcome to the amazingly popular November surgery list !!
-
Letsdothis, these decisions are the hardest part! You may want a second opinion from another PS, I found that to be very helpful.
I did DIEP, but the PS did need to take a small piece of muscle and place mesh om that area. It been a year and I can still feel a weakness in that area so I'm careful with lifting. I'm not the athletic type so its not a problem. If however I enjoyed sports, I'd probably be unhappy about my new limitations.
I couldn't imagine implants, not.for me, but many are really happy with them. For me it was either DIEP or flat. Before surgery I did have to tell the PS what I wanted him to do in the event that the flap failed,.did I want a TE placed or not.
I'm happy with the results. The first sx was 13 hours. I've had 2 revisions and they are now looking pretty symmetrical.
I'm anxiously awaiting nipples and tats. Reconstrucion is a long process. Good luck!
-
Thank you New Me and Thank God I found this thread!
Debiann- thank you so much for your info! I am not athletic either but need to work on a healthier lifestyle- no rock climbing or white water rafting- lol just maybe walking, bike riding- stuff like that. I'm not a gym goer.
13 hour surgery! WOW...

Hi November Surgery Ladies!
I had a UNI MX on October 7th. My Dr. Put 300 cc in TE, so I woke up with cleavage. I wear a Cooby bra and it evens me out.
I am jumping on this board to let you know I have some very nice camisoles with forms ( padded inserts) and a cutlet type form. 1 camisole is a post surgical camisole and has drain pockets. The other are fancier camisoles. These were given to me by LaLa1. I want to pay it forward and send the box to any one of you. I did not use them as my TE was expanded To 300cc right away. Sizes are M-L.
PM me and I can send them on.
God Bless all of you! You can and will get through this!!
