Any programs out there?

my doctor is ordering my mammo and wants an ultrasound also. I am uninsured. I plan to buy insurance by the Dec 15 deadline but you cannot USE the insurance until Jan 1st. I do not qualify for Medicaid. My husband makes too much money, a hair over their guidelines grrr. But, we do not make a lot of money that I can afford to pay out of pocket for testing either. My doctor does not want me waiting until January. Is there programs out there that can help? I know some help with mammograms, but what about ultrasounds and further testing? At this point it is looking like I won't be doing anythin

Also, check with your local government's Health Department and your local Planned Parenthood affiliate. Both should have information about any specifically local assistance that's available.

Check with the hospital your doctor is affiliated with. They might have some sort of program to help you bridge the gap until Jan. 1. I assume you know that the ACA has subsidies to help people who make too much for Medicaid. Agree Planned Parenthood might be helpful with the mammo, and so might the hospital. You can also try to negotiate with the lab or facility that does the US and see if you could pay the rate that they'd charge the insurer. Good luck!

just wanted you all to know...right after i posted this, my wonderful beautiful mother inlaw who is a breast cancer survivor told me she is paying for my mammo. then we will go from there..thank you all for pointing me in the right direction.

Of the many costs you might have, screening mammogram is the one most likely to be covered by various "programs." It might be good to have your mother-in-law's contribution "in reserve" for possible treatment/diagnostic testing that isn't covered.
