WOW..I Attended the coolest Aqua therapy class
This was so awesome. I got a chance to participate in a class by Dorit Tidhar. She was training instructors and we were the class in the water.
Dorit developed the Tidhar method which drains lymph fluid when you do specific exercises in the water.
Here were some cool things about it. We always were in water covering just over our shoulders. A very warm water. Using the current from the water we moved our lymph as we walked and swayed our arms gently. We belly breathed above water and then blew out the breath as we submerged. We did leap frog type jumps in the water etc. We MLD in the water. We lined up in a row and massaged the persons neck in front of us. She usually plays whale type music but we didn't have that at the instructor training class.
This course has been out over ten years at least but only a handful of instructors are worldwide.
There will be a couple instructors in our city but it is too far for me to travel. Dang it anyway but I am tempted.
Here's the best part......before each water class you measure your arm and then remeasure coming out.....yup it was smaller!
Dorit really emphasized us to keep our hands straight down towards our knees during some off the exercises as this created hydrostolic ( I think that's how you say it)pressure like wearing a garment.
So the majority of us won't get to take the Tidhar method unless an instructor has taken the class. But.....When I am in the water I will be over my shoulders (but not so deep to loose balance) and keeping my hands down but relaxed I will walk in water. Also I will be doing the belly out breaths under water. Sleeves , gloves off.
THIS SEEMED SO FUTURISTIC In managing LE with exercise! I am so fortunate to be able to be used as a demonstration for the trainees.

I want to know more! Although I doubt there are any classes by me. Heck, we don't even have LiveStrong at the Y.
Going to ask my LE therapist about this tomorrow at my appt.

So excited to hear about this - must look it up! Let me know of any other new things you've heard of!

looks like you can order a video. Glennieposted the link for it in my LE conference thread

My LE therapist was not familiar with this,, but she is going to ask the other LE therapist,, who,, to my surprise,, is a certified aqua therapist too,,, but not sure if she does this technique or not.
-
I really hope it's the tidhar she teaches.you can go on her website and see who teaches in your area. Not many that's for sure. I am going to order the DVD

well, due to the fact that my LE therapist is at my out-of-network hospital here in town,, I had to jump thru many hoops to get to see her. AND I'm only allowed to see her,,, can't see any of the others there. And since I have insurance,, I can't go to the water class as a "cash" patient,, and since the other therapist teaches it,,, insurance won't pay, and I am afraid to upset the apple cart and have them decide I can't see my current therapist. **did I confuse you yet?** So even if she teaches Tidhar,, I probably can't go. But I need to find a heated pool to use,,,,,

Bumping up. This was a long time ago but the newbies might be intrigued.
I never did order her DVD but I really should

Hugz - looks like there are some You Tube examples now. Link below. I'd love to go to the class in Spain or in Holland. But even if I discount the expense, I don't speak Spanish or Dutch. Sigh. There is also a selection to "find a therapist", and you can pick the US. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there are any by me.

Hi Hugz4u: I am really interested in the Tidhar Method and am trying to find a source here in Toronto. I understand Dorit Tidhar lives in Montreal and I'm wondering if that is where you participated in her class.

dad, I never signed up for the course. Dorit come out west and taught an instructor course and used myself and other le patients as demonstration subjects so she could teach the course. If you click on the last post it directs you to her webpage where you can find instructors. East Canada , Ontario and Montreal have a few teachers. I hope you can sign up where you livebecause it works!
