waiting for biopsy results

I had an ultrasound guided biopsy yesterday. After the biopsy the radiologist said it was a "low-risk" for cancer--but "good" that had the biopsy. How much weight can I give those words? The biopsy itself was fine--and very minimal discomfort. They said the results would come in three to five days--so I am hoping to hear thursday or friday. I am feeling on pins and needles--and trying to stop googling. thanks!

    You've probably heard (reading around here) that 80% of biopsy results are benign.

    You will have had some sort of a screening test before your biopsy. A mamogram? ultrasound? mri? At any rate, the test that led to you getting the biopsy. Do you have a copy of the report from that screening test? If not, be sure to ask for it. Chances are that it includes a BIRADs score. My guess is that your radiologists "low-risk" comment reflects a lower-range BIRADs score on that report. Perhaps the minimum that still calls for a biopsy? Who knows? (Get a copy of report...)

    I hear "Good that you had the biopsy" as a compliment to you and your doc. Means you've done the best you can to care for your health! However unlikely, you and your docs have been proactive (so that if you're in the 20% you'll be treated promptly). Sounds like a compliment to the both of you from the radiologist!

    Taken together, if I were you, I'd tend to expect that I'd find myself in the "80%." At any rate, no sense worrying about the 20%, since nothing you can do, think or worry will affect the results.

    Thank you for the advice and kind thoughts. I did have a mammogram and ultrasound on this spot--and then a 6 month ultrasound follow up. It had been rated as bi-rads 3. At the six month follow up--it was still looked exactly the same. The radiologists said I could wait another 6 months or do the biopsy. She did think that it looked "odd" but said she still felt it was low suspicion. She rated it a 4a--she said to help with insurance coverage. (I think that she still felt it was more of a 3?) The waiting and watching was giving me too much anxiety--but now this is giving me anxiety. The rational side of me tries to re-assure that the odds look good. I am a single mom of a five year old--and I think that is really driving this anxiety. Also there was a mistake in reading one of my early mammograms (a separate area that turned out to be fine) but it undermined my confidence in all this. Maybe I will hear tomorrow.
