Starting Chemo March 2015

Ksusan. Hope it's ok I laughed and seriously, a nasal spray?
PB. So hard starting the healing process again. You're in my planner for the 11th:)
T-I have some DMSO and mixed some with coconut oil yesterday. It got through cause I could taste garlic but no relief. We would use vet strength on the racehorses after a fast workout and had to wear gloves to prevent absorption. I am loving the oil alone and I always think of you and how you use it for everything!
Sue-thanks for thinking of the oils/me. They help me relax if nothing else
Sharon-I'm so impressed, running?!!
Katy I'm thinking of you:)
Ice is my best friend now.
Saw this and thought it appropriate for me-

I spent a good part of the day having the cataracts followed up. They have progressed at a rapid rate in the last six months (thanks chemo). So she recommended doing it now. Even with corrective lenses I can no longer see the tv at 8 feet. No driving at night for ages now. It's affecting my life. I'm so stressed out over it I can barely move. I know it's not a difficult surgery. They scheduled them both. One in December. One in January. I just want to close my eyes snd for it to all go away. Really sick of dr appts and though the surgery is pretty easy and fast there is loads of inconvenient follow up. Fuck cancer indeed.
-
Sue, DMSO is a substance that acts as a carrier, so whatever you put in it gets driven into your tissue. As Diane said, it is used for veterinary stuff like horses, but there is a lot of drama and debate about human use. That's why I have never mentioned it before. Don't want to recommend something that people fight over. You can google it if you want. The only thing I do before I use it is put some water in my skin because it can be slightly irritating. But be warned, anything it mixes with it infuses into your skin. My hubby uses it with marijuana oil on our dog for his skin cancer.
Grandkids just left, they were all Devils today and I am beat. Opening front door, trying to run into the street, timeout from grandpa, shoving a plate of food on the floor, no chocolate pudding for dessert, and the 15 month old kept trying to touch a cactus. Finally I put them in a small bathtub and sat on the floor. They did me in today lol! But I love them anyways!
And can I say this time change sucks big time? Feels like it should be time to go to bed.
-
I'm sorry Katy, that must be so scary and exhausting. I understand the constant doctor apps. Are they giving you a good visual prognosis after surgery? Thinking of you with my hand held out.. Sent email before seeing this:)
-
Katy so sorry about the cataracts. But everybody I know who gets it done is shocked by how well they can see after, hoping same for you
-
yes they say long distance vision prognosis is very good. There is risk, but it is small. Thank you.
-
T-I did find some DMSO cream at a health food store last year. It isn't as strong as what we used for the horses but still absorbs quickly. Sounds like you gad quite a day, made me chuckle:).
Time change is killing me too.. Hard to stay up past 830pm then I'm awake at 4am
-
Katy, will you be able to have a relative or friend with you on the surgery days?
-
I will have to. Hospital regulations require it because I'll be getting something like IV Versed plus some oral stuff. I live 45 minutes from the hospital now, and they told me today I will have an early surgery and have to come back to the Dr. office that same afternoon for a look see. So I don't know who or how yet, but I do have a couple of people I can ask. It's going to be an all day affair. I'll be owing someone big time.
-
Maybe a friend in town so you can rest between the two appointments rather than schlepp back and forth?
-
yes. That's probably what will happen. Good idea.
;-)
-
Katy, I am sorry you are scared of the surgery. I cannot wait to develop cataracts so I can get new lenses and pitch the contacts. They can even do mono vision if you like. So you can have both near and far vision. Please hang in there thru the procedure and apptmts. You'll be pleased with the results.
-
Katy...sorry to hear about the cataract surgery. When in December will you have them done? I know the anxiety of having it done is hard, it is scary. But we will all be here with you. My mom had her eyes done last year, and she too was so pleased with the the results. Hope it will be the same for you.

The first surgery will be on the anniversary of my BMX, 12/18.
The second will be in January, unless they get a cancellation.
Thanks, PB, and everyone, for the support. I know I will not be in pain, and there's an extremely small risk of anything worse happening. But I have to admit, it feels a little like people congratulating me on getting a new boob job. I want my body to stop betraying me.
-
did we ever make a decision on the holiday card thing?
I have many of your addresses (which I do not share) from the bracelet project. If anyone else wants to pm me their address I would love to add you to my list.
-
How can we share the address list? I want to play.
Katy, so sorry about the more surgery. You know we will be holding your hand as you go through it.
Personal question for TE folks: I had felt like I had sort of muted sensation in my "breast" where the expander is when I touch it. Discovered yesterday that when someone else touches it I actually can't feel it. I guess when it's my own hand I was perceiving some feeling, but mostly in my hand. Anyone else notice something similar? I'll ask the PS next time I see her, but this is completely not cool.
-
Hi E
I have loss of sensation in my left breast. It's from the mx, not the Te. Its a result of the nerves that were cut during the mx. Your BS should have explained that, prior to the mx. It also occurs in the region of lymph node removal. The cut nerves cannot regenerate. We can thank BC for that. I, too, can feel when I touch, but its just a "pressure" feeling. I opened a cabinet door into my breast yesterday, and felt nothing. I took this from a Breastcare Website...
"Sensation and touch
Lost sensation is an unfortunate byproduct of mastectomy, caused when delicate nerves are severed as breast tissue is removed. Just how much sensation is regained, and to what degree, varies greatly between individuals. Most women regain some feeling in their new breasts as nerves regenerate; this is more likely to occur with tissue flaps than with implants, because the nerves within the flaps regenerate in the chest. Typically, women remain numb in the front of the breast, retaining sensation primarily in the outer perimeters of the breast."The implant does "feel" much better than the TE, though. and it isn't nearly as "tight," most of the time. I still get occasional muscle spasms, but no pain. My PS suggested giving up chest presses, but I am stubborn, and won't. I backed down to 25lbs, for now.
I Agree with you, BC is completely Not Cool.
Hugs

Thanks Arlene. I was just googling too. I guess when I just had the mx scar I expected it to be numb and it was a small area. Now that there's all the new skin it's noticeable. I feel a huge sense of loss. I can't stop crying. It's just another f*cked up part of this whole shit sandwich.
-
- I know what u mean, e. I really slammed the cab door open and was Shocked when I didn't feel it. I actually looked that up yesterday, when it happened. I now understand why my BS didn't want me to have prophylactic BMX. She said she'd always rather strictly monitor the remaining healthy breast, than remove. I am glad to have my right side feel almost normal after the reduction and lift. But I know some things (sexual), will never feel the same. Sorry if that's TMI, but unfortunately true.
BC SUX
-
Not TMI - that's a lot of why I'm sad. As well as because BC took a whole 'nother thing from me. I also have mostly normal sensation on my lifted side, which is at least something.
-
when I was first diagnosed I really couldn't see or believe there would be an end to the tunnel, let alone light. Now that I have no treatment left, (thx, TN), I try so hard to be "normal." I am coming to undrstand the term, "new normal." And I Don't Like It. But it is what it is. Because it sure ain't the old normal. I guess I never realized BC cd take such a big piece of my sexual being and feeling. I Am Sad for that loss, too.
-
Arlene and E- I know. I'm sorry. Hugs to you both.
-
Thanks, Katy

Thanks, Katy. Arlene, it's so nice to know someone else feels the same way (even though I wish you didn't)

I have some areas with very little sensation other than pressure. I can feel my own hands as you describe. We're trying having my hands over my partner's hands on my breasts to reinforce the sensation that's there (and so I can demonstrate how it's comfortable for me to be touched now). I find that stretching a little--inhaling or arching my back slightly--increases sensation.
-
I was wondering about that sensation thing. It does feel like at some point, I will get some feeling back. But I am way more worried about the sex thing, too. I am going to work on that next year after treatment is done. I started using Replens because I felt like I was drier than usual lately.
I just wanted to comment on you ladies who said your employers singled you out about the insurance rate increases. We just got ours and my husband works for a huge company and they went up as much as 50%. So don't feel bad. The increases were way more attributable to Obamacare than you.

Magnesium taking ladies..... ? for ya..
I am taking 250mg, now at night, I was taking it with my trove of other supplements about mid morning but switched to try to help curb night hot flashes. But I am now noticing bathroom issues...
I am a really regular gal and I do not have a problem in that area. I am eating better, mostly veggies, fruit and meat right now, so I don't know if it is the influx of veggies or the magnesium!
-
I was taking magnesium 2xs a day - as per the bottle instructions (500mg). I cut that back to 1 pill due to bathroom issues. A girl needs to trust her farts. It wasn't that bad, but still.
I do a little coconut oil on my lady parts, I'm often just irritated from dryness. The fun never ends does it?
-
I do coconut oil on lady bits too.... It works wonders!
