BS and PS Recommendations Southern California
Hi ladies, I was looking for a topic where doctor recommendations are posted but did not find it. So I hope it is alright to start my own thread. I live in Southern Ca, in the Pasadena area and I was wondering if anyone here can recommend a good, no excellent Breast Surgeon and Plastic Surgeon. I have been referred to one of each already but I have only met up with the BS/Oncologist so far who is with the City of Hope but have no idea how good he is.

An excellent breast surgeon at City of Hope, Courtney Vito, made such a pretty scar for me. I was sure I was going to be just unhappy with my breast after surgery, but she did a great job! I did not get along with her personally, but would recommend her to anyone for the surgery itself. Good luck to you, let me know if there is anything I can do, ride-wise or whatever. I live in silver lake, but I still go to pasadena, all the time! City of Hope is amazing in so many ways, i just had a weird time there for a little while, but most of my doctors? Top notch! Who did you see at COH?

Tomboy, thank you for you'll recommendation and offer. It is so heart warning to meet woman like you who are so generous. I just met my oncologist/BS once when he gave me my diagnosis and treatment options, his name is Isaac Benjamin Paz and my PS appt is not until 11/3, Caroline Min. I will look up Courtney Vito. Thank you again. If you don't mind, which hospital did you have your surgeries at?
-
Had them at City of Hope, pretty much everything there. I will be there to meet the pain doctor on November 3!
-
Nov 3 is a popular day for appt. Hope everything goes well for you.

My niece used Dr. Paz and was extremely happy with her results (BMX & reconstruction). Her dad just had a lumpectomy Thursday and used Jeannie Shen at perhaps a surgery center in Pasadena through UCLA. Good luck with your search.
-
ORKnitter, oh thank you for that, you don't know how relief I feel to hear that Dr. Paz is good.
-
I was treated by Dr. Alice Police of UCI's Pacific Breast Center in Costa Mesa. Great experience and great results. She does surgery at both Hoag in Newport Beach and UCI.
Couldn't reccommend her her more highly!

I go to City of Hope So Pasadena. My surgeon was Dr Rao. She's amazing. I love her energy and she's a skilled surgeon. I also suggest Dr. Laura Kruper at City of Hope in Duarte.
-
Thank you Molly, I'm gonna look those doctors up. I really appreciate your input.

Hi. My surgeon was Dr. Dennis Holmes at the Glendale Adventist Center. He's a dedicated breast surgeon. Also Dr. Peter Ashjian is my plastic surgeon.

Thank you AG3, definitely going to look them up. I appreciate the response.
-
I have also heard great things about Dennis Holmes!
-
Hi,
My doctor was also Dr. Dennis Holmes, he is excellent. i can't say enough regarding Dr. Holmes . I consider myself very fortunate to have found him.
-
Dr. Holmes seems very favorable. Thank you Tomboy and bluefloeers. You ladies are great.
-
blue flowers and I were blessed to have had Dr. Holmes. He is highly skilled ,gentle, tends to get cerebral at times (so ask questions and write answers down)but love love him. I had a NSP (nipple sparing mastectomy) and both onco and ps were impressed. He's fairly new at the adventist so post surgery my anesthesiologist and or nurses were raving about him, which was nice.:)
Love love Dr. Ashjian too. Long office waits but we'll worth it.
Holmes main office is in L.A. but shares a beautiful Glendale office with Ashjian which is a plus.
I still have procedures scheduled with both.
City of Hope was my 2nd choice and is 10 minutes from my home . Glendale was 25 minutes, but was happy with Holmes and Ashjian on my first visit so I never made an appointment with Hope.
If you decide though to stay with Hope, please let me know who your Radiologist Onco will be.
I may have to do it there because I have 25 sessions.
Thanks
-
blue flowers - hope you don't mind me asking but did you have treatments with Dr. Holmes L.A. or Glendale team?
-
AG3, yes I will let you know if I decided to go with the Cuty of Hope. Thank you for your thoughts and opinions.
-
I also used Dr. Alice Police mention by LisaAlissa. She is top notch and cutting edge. I highly recommend her!

Hi, Although perhaps farther South than you may wish to go (Orange County) I highly recommend Dr. Anna Houterman as a breast surgeon and Dr. Andrew Smith for reconstruction/plastic surgeon. I was diagnosed with Stage 1 DCI (non-in situ) on April 13th 2015, I had a double mastectomy (nipple & skin sparing) on May 22nd with expanders placed at that time. Last week, on October 27th I had full reconstruction and can honestly say that the results not only exceeded my expectations but also my other docs such as primary care, etc. I have very little swelling, bruising and my incision/scars are under the breast fold. Regardless of who you choose, ask them to see pictures of the work that they have performed. Ask what you can realistically expect given your age, skin type, condition, etc. Don't be afraid to ask questions and get as much info as possible. My younger sister and also a friend were diagnosed with Stage 1 and had Dr. Smith perform their reconstructions so I had reliable sources going into my meeting with him but did look at pictures of before/after on his website. He and his dedicated team couldn't be a better group to work with on such a major decision.
-
JB92694, thank you for responding. I will look those doctors up as well. So good to hear that you are happy with their treatment and results.
-
MKTCA, Good Luck & God Bless! Know that you will make it through this and that there is a great group of women on this site to lend support and advice! Just take it day by day!
-
JB92694, thank you so much. It means a lot to me to find ladies here like youwho are so supportive. Just knowing I'm not alone really helps. Thank you all.

I was doing more research and stumbled on this very recognized doctor who specializes in DCIS up in San Francisco. I was thinkingof getting his 2nd opinion. Anybody familiar with him? Dr. Michael Lagios http://www.breastcancerconsultdr.com/about_dr_lagios/about_dr_lagios.html
